What’s the story?

In a recent appearance on the Pancakes and Powerslams Show, former WWE superstar Rosa Mendes discussed and opened up about why she decided to come out of retirement and make a return to the Pro Wrestling industry.

In case you didn’t know…

Rosa Mendes first competed in the WWE under the company’s Diva Search tournament back in 2006. Throughout the course of her WWE career, Mendes was engaged in numerous storylines, most notably the one involving Beth Phoenix, for whom Rosa worked as an on-screen intern.

The former OVW Women’s Champion also portrayed the role of an on-screen manager for Epico and Primo, however, following the birth of her child in 2016, Mendes would go eventually go on to announce her retirement from Professional Wrestling in 2017.

The heart of the matter

While recently interacting on the Pancakes and Powerslams show, Rosa Mendes claimed that following her retirement from Pro Wrestling, she had a lot of regret within herself due to the fact that she wasn’t able to compete in the ring for a specific and well-oriented amount of time.

“My father was in the ICU recently, and on his deathbed and he was on life support. And, at the same time, Bobby [Schubenski] had a separation. So, it was one of those moments in my life where I looked at my father, and he was dying, and I thought to myself, I don’t ever want to have any regrets. I don’t ever want to be in a position where I’m laying here just like my dad, and that I never fulfilled my dream of having a five-star match in the ring.”

In addition, Mendes also stated, that she hopes that her newly born daughter looks up to her mother as an inspirational figure, who dedicated a lot to the Pro Wrestling business and she also hopes that her child doesn’t end up having any sort of regrets while growing up.

“So, I’m looking at her and raising her, and how could I tell her to do something that I didn’t do? How could I tell her, ‘Follow your dreams, do everything you’ve ever wanted and have no fear,’ when I didn’t do that in my life. So basically… that kind of snapped in my head, and I was like, I have to go back in the ring. I have to. What’s the match that I could back, and even if I won or lost, I gave it everything I had and I’m proud of myself. And I can’t say that right now. So, that’s the reason why I’m going back, and I’m working harder than I ever have in my whole entire life.”

What’s next?

As noted, it now seems like Rosa Mendes will be competing on the Independent circuit for a while now and a while back, it was also noted that Mendes has been training at the MCW Performance Center.

Author’s Take

Rosa Mendes definitely seems like a determined woman who wants to be an inspirational figure for her daughter and it is certainly great to see her hitting the ropes inside the squared circle yet again.
