#1 The Godfather speaks on his current and future WWE status
Charles Wright, a.k.a The Godfather, is currently with WWE under a legends contract.
Speaking on the Midnight Hustle Podcast, he revealed that attending WrestleMania every year used to be fun as he got a chance to meet up with other veterans. However, that no longer seems to be the case for the WWE Hall of Famer, who sees his current status with the company as more like a job.
Is this man the funniest man in wrestling?
“In the last 12 years I’ve been to WrestleMania 10 times because I’m still under a contract with them. It’s called a Legends Contract. They keep it relevant. They bring you to WrestleMania every year and you’re just doing signings and stuff, but I told my wife, I’m like, ‘I don’t even wanna go anymore. It’s not fun, it’s a job.’ It used to be a chance to hang out with the boys,” The Godfather said.
The former Intercontinental Champion also ruled out a potential WWE in-ring return and expressed that he is not actively looking for additional work within the company.
“No, sir [no in-ring return]. No, sir. No, no, no. Yeah [attended The Undertaker’s Final Farewell], I didn’t wrestle." The Godfather continued, "Like I said, I’m under contract with them. If they ask me to do something I would do it, but I’m cool with not. I’m usually home Monday through Thursday, I’m on the road every weekend, so I’m cool just chilling, I’m all right, I’m not looking for more work.”
As far as in-ring action in WWE is concerned, The Godfather last participated in the 2013 Royal Rumble match. Dolph Ziggler eliminated him from that contest in five seconds.
The Hall of Famer's recent on-screen appearances for the company includes the 2019 RAW Reunion show and The Undertaker's retirement ceremony last year.
