#3 Murphy was confused about his WWE storyline direction with the Mysterio family
Last month, Murphy was released by WWE alongside a few other popular talents. The former Cruiserweight Champion's departure from the company isn't something many would have predicted in 2020, as he was involved in a high-profile feud between Seth Rollins and the Mysterio family.
While Murphy initially took part in the program as Rollins' disciple, he soon turned babyface and joined the father-son duo of Rey and Dominik Mysterio. A popular subplot from this angle revolved around Murphy's romance with Rey's daughter, Aalyah.
However, plans for his alliance with The Mysterios' were soon dropped by WWE. During a recent interview with Fightful, Murphy spoke about the lack of communication between him and the company regarding this storyline. At the time, he also texted Dominik about whether or not Aalyah was returning to television.
"Rey and Dominik are doing stuff and I'm like, 'what's going on?' Aalyah is not there. 'Do they need me?' I'm messaging Dominik like, 'Is Aalyah coming to TV?' There was no communication. She was asking her dad, I'm asking Dom and Rey. We had no idea. The dirt sheets said they had dropped the angle. How do the dirt sheets know before I do? I'm trying to track down Bruce [Prichard]. I track him down and I'm like, 'What's going on?' He's like, 'Yeah, we dropped it,''' said Murphy.
Before being let go by WWE, Murphy made sporadic appearances on SmackDown.
Following his recent release, the former WWE star intends to make a splash in different promotions once his non-compete clause expires on August 31.
