We're back with another edition of the WWE News & Rumor Roundup. The spotlight of today's edition will be on Money in the Bank 2024.
The company has been without one of its biggest names, Brock Lesnar, for a long time, but The Beast Incarnate continues to make rare appearances outside the ring. A popular star is also expected to be backstage at Money in the Bank as his wife is scheduled for a big match at the PLE.
The roundup also details why WWE chose to change the name of a highly-rated prospect. On that note, here are the day's top stories:
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
#1. Brock Lesnar spotted during his WWE hiatus
Lesnar has been off of WWE TV since putting Cody Rhodes over at SummerSlam 2023, and some even believe he may never be back due to his alleged involvement in the lawsuit against Vince McMahon.
Nonetheless, it looks like the former World Champion is doing well during his time away. Recently, Lesnar posed with a young fan in a photo that seemingly also featured his daughter, Mya Lesnar, in the background.
While he wasn't directly mentioned in Janel Grant's lawsuit, Brock Lesnar's alleged involvement was referenced, and it resulted in plans for his return getting nixed.
Rumors suggested that he would have had a match against Gunther, but as things stand, Triple H and the higher-ups are yet to bring the former UFC Champion back into the mix. Considering the current status of the legal proceedings, it might still be a while until fans see Lesnar back in the ring.
#2. Chelsea Green says Matt Cardona will be at Money in the Bank, and hopes he returns someday
Matt Cardona (fka Zack Ryder) has done incredibly well for himself since being released from the WWE years ago. His wife, Chelsea Green, will compete in the Women's Money in the Bank match. Green recently spoke to Sportskeeda Wrestling's Emily Mae to promote the show.
Right off the bat, Chelsea was asked about Matt Cardona, and she confirmed that the former Intercontinental Champion would be backstage at Money in the Bank to support her.
"He's great. He is actually on his way here to watch me win Money in the Bank." [From 00:26 to 00:31]

While Cardona himself has been vocal about wanting to resume his WWE career, Chelsea Green, too, would love to see her better half in the promotion. In the same interview, she teased potentially getting Cardona back as her mixed tag team partner:
"I don't know if I would work with him, but let's put a pin in that one; I am not sure. But I would obviously love to see him back. I mean, ideally, I would love to see him and Steph [De Lander] back together to do the GCW shtick. But you know, I would take him as my mix tag partner if I needed to." [From 00:39 to 00:58]
Whether Matt Cardona returns or not, Chelsea Green has been enjoying a great run lately and is hoping to win the Women's Money in the Bank briefcase.
#3. The reason behind Tamyra Mensah-Stock's name change
Tamyra Mensah-Stock's signing was seen as a huge deal, as most former Olympians who've stepped foot inside the wrestling ring have proven to be great. Having been signed since May 2023, the 31-year-old finally wrestled her first match on the July 5th episode of NXT Level Up, losing to Wren Sinclair.
The star interestingly wrestled as "Tyra Mae Steele," leaving many to wonder why WWE would change her moniker, given that she is a well-known Olympic gold medalist.
Dave Meltzer wrote in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the feeling within the company was that the "average WWE fan" would not have known her name.
"The feeling is that the average WWE fan doesn’t know her name, so they should give her a name they know, unlike with Jade Cargill, where the idea was that the average WWE fan already knows her name and that name has cache," stated Meltzer. [H/T: Ringside News]
It was noted that people in the promotion had said only good things about Tamyra's attitude and progress, and with a new name, she would be looking to make a good impression early on in her career.
