What’s the story?

On a recent edition of the Pancakes and Powerslams Show, Sawyer Fulton opened up on myriad topics.

Fulton let fans in on several burning questions surrounding his WWE departure, including why the original SAnitY faction didn’t come to fruition, the primary reason behind his WWE release and whether he’d consider returning to WWE right now.

In case you didn’t know…

Sawyer Fulton performed for the WWE’s NXT brand from 2012-16, and was unused on the yellow brand’s television tapings since he sustained his pectoral injury last November. Following 12 months of inactivity, the 27-year-old was released from the WWE this November.

The gimmick for SAnitY was initially pitched to Sawyer Fulton, Marcus Louie & Solomon Crowe, however, the group would later comprise only Fulton, Eric Young, Alexander Wolfe & Nikki Cross. Fulton was replaced a few months ago by Killian Dain.

The heart of the matter

Sawyer Fulton recalled that he, Sami Callihan and Marcus Louie often pitched ideas pertaining to the SAnitY gimmick to management in NXT. Despite Callihan being one of his best friends, they started butting heads since it appeared as though he and Louie would be nothing more than nameless lackeys in a group led by Callihan. Fulton opened up on the real reason behind his WWE departure; stating—

"It was explained to me that I would be starting from square one, and at that point, honestly, it was just time. It wasn't malice, like I hold no salt against WWE, because I learned so much and I've grown so much as a performer."

Furthermore, Fulton elucidated that he would not return to the WWE right now, and instead chooses to hone his skills and make a name for himself outside the WWE and prove that he can work with the best. Fulton explained that he’s interested in wrestling all over the world—Mexico and Japan in particular—owing to which he’s been brushing up on his Spanish & Japanese linguistic skills.

He added that everything right now is a learning process to him, and the end-goal is to become a great professional wrestler.

What’s next?

Sawyer Fulton presently plans on continuing his pro-wrestling career outside the WWE, with several notable promotions such as NJPW, ROH and AAA probably on the cards for him in the days to come.

Author’s take

Sawyer Fulton is a hulking performer who is very light on his feet, and has excellent cardio.

He is a tremendous talent, and could potentially return to the WWE a more slick pro-wrestler in a couple of years. It’s great to see him hold no ill will towards the promotion, and have a positive approach towards his career.
