What's the story?
Shawn Michaels is an icon when it comes to in-ring competition but over the past few years, he has been taking more and more control in NXT, to the point where he is now helping to write the show.
In case you didn't know...
Shawn Michaels returned to the ring at Crown Jewel earlier this month where he teamed with Triple H against the team of The Undertaker and Kane where he was victorious. Michaels went on to state that he was going back to his normal life after the match since it appears that it took quite the toll on his body after more than eight years away from the squared circle.
Michaels has been working at WWE's Performance Center over the past few years where he has been able to help craft some of the future stars of the company and many now believe that HBK will lay a big role in the company when Triple H takes full control.
The heart of the matter
Shawn Michaels recently appeared on Edge and Christian's Podcast of Awesomeness where he was able to talk about his input in NXT and how much control he has over the next generation.
"I love the NXT, and, again, that's where I get to go to work darn near every day and it's a blast because they're taking it worldwide. Heck, we're over in the UK now and it's a-whole-nother group of young, hungry guys and when you're constantly around all these young, hungry guys scratching and clawing to get their shot. And them being in NXT they know it finally got real to them. They know the next step could be to the main roster. And good, bad, or otherwise, they know there's a chance. Do you know what I mean? Everybody can complain like the wrestling fans do now, they complain this guy getting used here, or getting used there, or whatever, but the only way to have a chance is to get there. And so, that's what they all focus on, not whether they're getting used well, they're just focused on, 'if I get there, I have a chance' and that's very infectious to be around and it's a joy to be around on a regular basis because we've got a group of great and talented young men and women in NXT and obviously in the UK now as well," he said via WrestlingInc.
Michaels was introduced to the company as a trainer at the Performance Center but he has now got to the point where he is also helping Triple H to write the show.
"To [Triple H] and I, clearly, [NXT] is his baby, but I mean, I'm all in. Yeah, they've got me hook, line, and sinker. And it's funny because he kind of hired me like, 'just stick your big toe in and see how you like it. Just do a couple of times a week.' And then, of course, whatever it is, two years later, I'm full scale helping to write TVs and doing it all! I'm so far in, there's no way I'm getting out and I have no desire to get out because it's a blast. It really is."
What's next?
Michaels is expected to be part WrestleMania next year, where he could make his return to the ring to face The Undertaker in what could be The Deadman's final match.
