What’s the story?
Despite coming up short at WWE Payback, Sheamus and Cesaro have earned the right to have another shot at The Hardy Boyz’ WWE RAW Tag Team Championship. The European duo outlasted four other teams last night in London to win a number one contender's Tag Team Turmoil match, for a championship opportunity at some point down the line.
In case you didn’t know...
Just six months ago, Sheamus and Cesaro were the bitterest of rivals, but Mick Foley’s decision to put them in a tag team together seems to have finally clicked for both men. The duo duly won the RAW Tag Team Championship from The New Day before losing those titles to Gallows and Anderson at the 2017 Royal Rumble. The Hardy Boyz are now in control of those titles.

Cesaro and Sheamus lost to Matt and Jeff at Payback, but a vicious attack after the match kept the Swiss Superman and Celtic Warrior at the forefront of the tag team picture. The entire RAW tag division did battle last night to decide who would become the new number one contenders.
The heart of the matter
The Tag Team Turmoil match ended up being the Sheamus and Cesaro show. The duo entered the match first against Enzo and Big Cass, eventually putting away The Certified Gs after Cesaro locked Enzo in the Sharpshooter. A Brogue Kick to Heath Slater ended Slater and Rhyno’s night, before Luke Gallows fell to the same move, meaning goodnight for The Club.
The final hurdle saw Sheamus and Cesaro take on perennial jobbers Goldust and R-Truth, better known as Golden Truth. The veteran duo seemed in control of the match and were within sight of pulling off an unlikely victory, but Truth’s enthusiasm soon got the better of him. The former WWE United States Champion ran right into the turnbuckle, allowing Cesaro to roll him up for the 1-2-3.
Jeff and Matt came out to confront the new number one contenders after the match, but the Europeans were having none of that.
What’s next?
It wasn’t made clear when Sheamus and Cesaro would be getting their title shot. The next RAW exclusive pay-per-view is WWE Extreme Rules, but that won’t take place for another four weeks.
Will the former champions be forced to wait that long before getting their title shot? It is unlikely. One must assume that the championship match will take place on RAW at some point during this month.
Author’s Take
The nostalgia surrounding The Hardy Boyz is going to expire sooner rather than later, and Sheamus and Cesaro are undoubtedly the right team to build the RAW tag team division around.
By positioning the Europeans as no-nonsense fighting champions, RAW has a chance to create real competition in the tag ranks, as well as laying the groundwork for whoever beats them to get a major rub.
