What's the story?
Stone Cold Steve Austin recently spoke with Ring Rust Radio about the WWE product and the current Superstars that he likes to watch.
In case you didn't know...
Stone Cold Steve Austin is a WWE Hall of Famer who retired from the squared circle 14 years ago. He was a crucial part of the WWE's Attitude Era and one of the most popular Superstars that the WWE universe ever embraced.
Since stepping away from the ring, Stone Cold has managed to build a movie and television career with a popular reality show called Broken Skull Ranch on CMT. He also hosts his own podcast titled The Steve Austin Show on PodcastOne.
The heart of the matter
In the interview with Ring Rust Radio, Stone Cold was asked how much WWE content does he have to consume for his podcast show. He stated that due to a large amount of WWE content created nowadays, it sometimes gets tough but he tries to watch as much as possible as he is still involved in the business.
It's hard to watch because three hours of Raw every Monday and then two hours of SmackDown, but because I am still involved with the business, I try to watch as much as I can.
When questioned about his favourite current Superstars to watch on TV, Stone Cold answered first with the Beast Incarnate, Brock Lesnar. He even said that he is an ardent follower of AJ Styles, Finn Balor and wondered how the WWE plan to deal with the Japanese sensation Shinsuke Nakamura.
Brock Lesnar is an absolute beast. I enjoy watching him and seeing what AJ Styles is up to next. Waiting to see if Finn Balor will continue to find his way. Waiting to see what they will end up doing with Shinsuke Nakamura and give him a green light push with that great background he brings from New Japan Pro-Wrestling.
Stone Cold acknowledged that the product has changed a lot since he hung up his boots 14 years back but he likes it. He tries to suspend disbelief, lose himself in it and enjoy the ride.
What's next?
Stone Cold Steve Austin's show Broken Skull Ranch is in its fifth season and episodes premiere every Tuesday on the CMT network. Steve also dishes out a weekly podcast wherein he gives his thoughts on the latest ongoings in the pro wrestling world.
Author's take
Stone Cold Steve Austin is one of the most respected names in the pro-wrestling world. Despite retiring 14 years ago, he has managed to keep himself attached to the business with his highly successful podcast.
I am an avid listener of his show and his thoughts about the business are optimistic and evolve as the product changes. He brings the old school mentality along with a desire to appreciate the new wave, which is a great perspective for an old-timer like Austin.
