What's the story?

Shane McMahon and The Miz defended their WWE SmackDown Tag Team Championships at WWE Elimination Chamber 2019 against the Usos in their first-ever defence since winning the titles.

Prior to the title match, Miz made an emotional announcement along with Maryse -- which you can read about here.

In the match, however, the result was not what The Miz and Shane McMahon either wanted or expected.

In case you didn't know...

Ever since WWE Crown Jewel, The Miz and Shane McMahon have developed a sort of camaraderie. While Shane McMahon was both suspicious and reluctant at first, since then, the partnership between McMahon and The Miz has proved to be a successful and a fruitful one for both men.

At WWE Royal Rumble, their partnership reached a whole another level. Shane O'Mac and Miz found themselves in a WWE SmackDown Tag Team Championships match against the then Champions - The Bar.

In a result that no one was ready for, Shane McMahon and The Miz actually got the better of the Champions and ended up winning the Championships. They celebrated their friendship over the following weeks, but since then they were faced with another obstacle -- the former tag team Champions, The Usos.

The heart of the matter

During the match, Shane McMahon and The Miz faced the Usos well, pushing them way past their limit. Given that they were a comparatively new team, taking on one of the best tag teams of all time, it was a performance that was well-deserving of a win.

Shane McMahon hit a coast-to-coast, and then hit another opponent who was lying on the commentary table with an incredible flying elbow.

However, that was not enough, as the Usos were able to isolate The Miz later on in the match, and took him out, thereby winning the Championship once again.

What's next?

Shane McMahon and The Miz will possibly look to make things right and gain back the WWE SmackDown Tag Team Titles.
