What's the story?
The Miz recently spoke with Sports Illustrated to discuss a variety of topics. One of the main topics they spoke about was the WrestleMania feud with John Cena, and that the Miz was not on board with the storyline at first.
In case you didn't know...
In 2011, The Miz and John Cena headlined WrestleMania 27 in Atlanta, Georgia. Miz won the WWE Championship in November 2010 after cashing in Money In The Bank on Randy Orton. At WrestleMania, he'd retain his title against Cena, but lose it the following month at Extreme Rules.

The heart of the matter...
At WrestleMania 33 last year in Orlando, The Miz and Maryse lost to John Cena and Nikki Bella in a mixed tag match. The build-up to the feud had some entertaining moments including the one below:
In the interview with Sports Illustrated, Miz was reluctant to do the angle with Cena because he didn't know how well it would turn out. He would turn it down initially because he was afraid it would end up being a poor angle, but as he started discussing with Maryse and imitating John Cena, they realized this could be hilarious.
"Then I was driving with my wife and I was thinking about it and i was like, 'Maybe this could be good,' and I started doing how I would do John Cena and I just escalated it and Maryse just started dying laughing. If Maryse laughs at something, then it's funny because she doesn't laugh at anything. So I was like, 'Hmm, this is something. And then I started thinking of ideas on what it would be and I was like, 'alright we got something here.'"
When Miz was asked on his opinions on how the angle turned out, he realized how good it was going to be once Maryse started imitating Nikki Bella.
A lot of the stuff we were doing wasn't even written. We were just going off the cuff. And the way the editors did it, with the music, how it was shot, how it was filmed, everything clicked and it all worked out.
Miz mentioned when the WWE Universe first heard about the feud, they couldn't stand it, but as the feud progressed, it turned into one of the must-see WrestleMania matches on the card.
What's next?
After The Miz won back the WWE Intercontinental Championship at Raw 25, he sets his sights on the Royal Rumble Match. On the Kickoff Show for Raw 25, Miz announced he'll be in the Rumble and look to main event WrestleMania once again.
Author's take...
I have to say that I'm absolutely glad that Miz and Maryse talked this through and decided to go through with the angle. Those Total Divas Bull**** videos were hilarious. I think Maryse stole those scenes with her imitation of Nikki Bella.
It just added to what turned out to be a great 2017 for The Miz, where he was named Rolling Stone Magazine's Pro Wrestler Of The Year.
