What's the story?
At the 2019 Royal Rumble, there was an unusual tag team in the pre-show. The Revival's Scott Dawson teamed up with AOP's Rezar in a match against WWE RAW Tag Team champions, Chad Gable and Bobby Roode.
Following the match, Dawson's teammate, Dash Wilder, teased a possible exit from the WWE.
In case you didn't know...
Recent reports have suggested that The Revival have asked for their release from WWE due to them being poorly booked as well as the state of the RAW tag team division.
The Revival are rumoured to be interested in joining AEW, which could have caused the RAW tag team to quit the WWE.
The heart of the matter
In the Royal Rumble kick-off show, AOP's manager, Drake Maverick, was outside Vince McMahon's office and Maverick revealed that he had spoken to Vince McMahon about a possible match for AOP for Royal Rumble.
Akam, one-half of AOP, is injured, and Maverick said that Rezar is keen on winning the title once again, so proposed a new tag team for the night - Rezar + one-half of The Revival. Maverick said, “I know it sounds different, but an opportunity like this – if this team wins, that means both The Revival and AOP can be in line for a future RAW Tag Team Championship opportunity down the road. Rezar is all in on this. I hope Scott Dawson is, as well.”
Scott Dawson of The Revival agreed to join Rezar to fight the RAW Tag Team champions, Chad Gable and Bobby Roode. Roode and Gable won the match and retained the title in the first match of the night.
Following the match, Dash Wilder tweeted a 'goodbye' emoji, teasing once again a move away from the WWE.
What's next?
We aren't quite sure if Wilder was being genuine or if he was just playing the WWE Universe and dirtsheets (like us) with his emoji tweet.
