What's the story?
Velveteen Dream took aim at 'King' Ricochet on Twitter through the always welcome guise of a Lion King GIF. Dream posted a GIF of the moment Scar kills Mufasa in the popular Disney animation with the caption 'long live the king'. Not only does this seem like an obvious allusion to the nickname Ricochet has, but Dream avoided any doubt by clearly tagging Ricochet in the post.
In case you didn't know...
Velveteen Dream has recently embarked on a social media rant rallying against 'Indy wrestlers' with many speculating that the home-grown WWE star was taking a shot at the newly acquired high-flyer Ricochet.
Dream posted a now-deleted (in what seems to be part of the storyline) tweet about independent wrestlers and then followed up with this notepad written rant about them.
The heart of the matter
Dream's actions are deliberately attempting to blur the lines between reality and kayfabe, but the presence of the WWE.com article responding to Dream's initial complaints and then a further WWE.com article covering the Lion King tweet suggests that the company are trying a different kind of build for this dream feud.
Not one to take Dream's challenge lightly, Ricochet responded in kind with another Lion King GIF, this one showing the moment Simba triumphantly stands atop Pride Rock after ousting Scar from his reign of terror (I love the Lion King.)
What's next?
Ricochet has been working NXT house shows and is set to make his television debut imminently. However, this seems like a feud that will culminate in the NXT TakeOver before WrestleMania which would undoubtedly make that a must-watch show (not that TakeOver isn't always a must-watch show.)
Author's take
I am 100% on board for a Ricochet and Velveteen Dream feud. Thank you, WWE for bringing us this match. I cannot wait.
