He may be getting old, but he’s certainly not getting slow. While his decisions about the booking of certain wrestlers may not reflect it, WWE Chairman Vince McMahon is as astute as ever. This incident exemplifies it.
On the March 7th episode of RAW, Brie Bella faced Summer Rae in a match that the latter won after Lana distracted Brie. After the match, Lana laid out Brie with her own move, the Bella Buster. According to dailywrestlingnews.com, Vince McMahon was listening to the audio feed during the match and observed that veteran announcer Michael Cole did not comment that Lana used Brie’s own move against her.
A trifle? Not in the least. An irate McMahon blasted the producers to “get in Cole’s ear” as soon as the move was executed. None of the producers caught it either, including Triple H, who was wearing a headset (Vince was not) and the Chairman was annoyed with them as well. Mr. McMahon is a stickler for attention to detail and felt that moments like that need to be magnified.
Cole, real name Michael Sean Coulthard, has been an employee of the WWE since 1997. He was a journalist before it, covering amongst others, Bill Clinton’s presidential campaign and the Yugoslavian Civil War.
