What's the story?
The women of WWE have come a long way since the time of Divas and Valets, but it appears that there are still some restraints on the Women's Division at present.
In case you didn't know...
The recent Women's Revolution has allowed many women to step into the spotlight and make history in the squared circle, but before Ronda Rousey was the Raw Women's Champion, there were women like Trish Stratus, Lita and Victoria who had hardcore and steel cage matches on Monday Night Raw.
These matches were in an era where it was much more acceptable for the women to tear pieces out of each other in the name of entertainment, but these matches have been forgotten in favor of the current Women's Revolution.
The heart of the matter
Former Women's Champion Victoria recently spoke to Ring The Belle about her steel cage match with Lita, where she asked Vince McMahon if she could blade to "add some color" but The Chairman refused her request.
“One day I came to TV, and they were like you have a cage match, And I went ‘Are you kidding me?’ We gig our forehead to bleed sometime, and I wanted to gig [during the match]. I would never do it now, but at the time I thought we were so hardcore and we can do whatever the guys do.
I went to Vince to ask him and he goes, ‘Thank you Victoria for wanting to do it, but no one wants to see a Diva bleed.’ I did ask Lita to throw me as hard as you can against the cage so I can get color naturally. I didn’t know how to do it, and I got a big knot,” she said via Ringsidenews.
What's next?
Victoria is one of the women who is rumored to be part of this year's Women's Royal Rumble Match, which would be a fantastic surprise since she announced earlier this year that this would be her final year as an active wrestler.
