WWE News: What happened after Raw went off the air (05/01/17)

Finn Balor and Seth Rollins after Raw went off the air tonight

What’s the story?

WWE Monday Night Raw ended with a pretty spectacular main event pitting Finn Balor against Seth Rolling and The Miz to determine the #1 contender for the WWE Intercontinental Title. In the end, The Miz took home the win after Samoa Joe and Bray Wyatt attacked Rollins and Balor, respectively.

When the cameras stopped rolling, Ambrose came down to the ring to interview the man who is now the number one contender to his title.

In case you didn’t know...

During Raw, Seth Rollins came to the ring and announced he wanted to fight the WWE Universal Champion, Brock Lesnar, for his title. This prompted Finn Balor to come to the ring to confront Rollins.

Balor conceded that he and Rollins were on the “same page lately” but that he felt he deserved to be next in line for a title shot since he was never defeated for the title in the first place. That prompted IC champion Dean Ambrose to come to the ring and declare that his title was the most important title on Raw since Lesnar was nowhere to be seen lately.

Finally, The Miz – along with Maryse – took this opportunity to trash talk to all three of them... which lead to the aforementioned Triple Threat match.

The heart of the story

Before the match on Raw, Ambrose took it upon himself to interview both Rollins and Balor in two actually really funny segments. After the match, Ambrose came to the ring to interview Miz – which, as one could imagine, didn’t end well for him. The “Awesome One” ended up taking finishers from all three men.

WWE taped Main Event at tonight's Raw. Here are the results:

- Drew Gulak defeated Lince Dorado by tap out with a Dragon Sleeper.

- Curtis Axel defeated Curt Hawkins with the Perfect Plex.

What's next?

Clearly, Ambrose and Miz are once again going to feud for the IC belt, Joe and Rollins will keep their program going, and Wyatt has moved on from Orton to Balor. It was a really good match that did a great job of setting up programming going forward.

Author’s take

As great as that match was, did anyone really seeing Rollins or Balor competing for the IC Title?

Granted, we may have said that about Ambrose after he lost the WWE Championship but, still... The last match of the night was great and the segment after Raw was a lot of fun and certainly sent the crowd home happy.
