The dark segment after WWE SmackDown Live saw Dolph Ziggler as Kentucky Fried Chicken founder Col. Sanders take on the WWE Intercontinental Champion The Miz, dressed as a chicken. Ziggler ended up winning the match. It’s unknown if the spot was just for the crowd or for commercial use. KFC is one of the Summerslam sponsors along with Cricket Wireless so probably this was some sort of segment for KFC.

In addition to the noted Ziggler/Miz segment, the dark match after tonight’s show featured RAW stars Seth Rollins facing Roman Reigns. The crowd seemed split down the middle, 50/50 for Reigns and Rollins. However, Reigns ended up winning the match after hitting a spear and Superman punch.
SmackDown Live may still be finding its footing after the brand split, but there’s a very old school feel to the show that’s being fine-tuned each and every week. While Raw is still looking to fill its three-hour TV time with meaningful storylines, SmackDown is embracing a method of storytelling that would feel right at home in the early-to-mid 90s and the first few months of the 2002 brand split. Patience and an embracing of the entire roster is really the key here.
This particular episode of SmackDown was as unpredictable as any. The biggest upset of the night would be Heath Slater defeating Randy Orton via disqualification.
We also saw a 12-man tag team match to showcase the Smackdown tag team division in which American Alpha picked up the win for their team with the Grand Amplitude.
Ambrose and Eric Rowan were set for one on one action. Ambrose won his match with Dirty Deeds. After the match, Bray Wyatt turned his back on Erick Rowan and abandoned him in the ring. This could probably lead to a big singles push for Wyatt.
Naomi had a new entrance, new music, and gear, but Eva Marie’s narrator announced that Eva Marie would be unable to compete, due to traffic and the match ended in a no contest. In another match, Becky Lynch and Carmella tagged against Natalya and Alexa Bliss, Eva Marie then finally arrived and made her grand entrance. Naomi appeared and chased her, distracting Natalya long enough for Becky Lynch to slap the Disarmer on her.
AJ Styles was on commentary for Cena vs Del Rio where Cena won with an Attitude Adjustment. After the match, Styles got in the ring and attacked Cena, saying Cena’s time is up. Cena then hit Styles with an Attitude Adjustment, then hit another Attitude Adjustment off the ring steps, putting Styles through the announce table.
