What's the story?
This week on Monday Night Raw, Kurt Angle made his way to the ring and rather than having to qualify for the historic first ever Women's Elimination Chamber match, it seems that the women were simply announced to be taking part in the match by the General Manager.
In case you didn't know...
Stephanie McMahon announced last week on Raw that after the success of the first ever Women's Royal Rumble match the women would once again be making history at the second pay-per-view of the year later this month when they take part in the first ever female Elimination Chamber match.
It seems that the women of WWE didn't have to qualify for the match like their male counterparts since there are only seven women on the Raw roster who are currently fit and able to take part in the match. Paige and Alicia Fox are still out injured so they weren't in contention to be part of this historic match much like how they didn't play a part in The Women's Royal Rumble last month.
The heart of the matter
The Raw General Manager announced that Alexa Bliss would defend her Raw Women's Championship in Satan's Structure against Mandy Rose, Sonya Deville, Mickie James, Bayley and Sasha Banks.
The Champion obviously wasn't happy about this announcement and made her way to the ring to question why she was defending her Championship and Brock Lesnar wasn't. Since Alexa hasn't defended her title since October at TLC, it seems that she didn't have a valid argument because Brock defended his Championship at The Royal Rumble and isn't thought to be returning to WWE until the week after Elimination Chamber at the end of the month.
One name that should be in the match is Nia Jax but it seems that she will instead be facing Asuka and if she can win then she will be added to the Raw Women's Championship match at WrestleMania.
What's next?
The first ever Women's Elimination Chamber match takes place as part of the event of the same name on February 25th and will then determine who the Raw Women's Champion will be heading into WrestleMania 34.
Author's take
It's strange that WWE have added Sonya and Mandy to this match, they probably had Alicia and Paige in the plans when this was originally discussed, but it seems that injuries have forced their hand. If Asuka had been put in the match she would have no need to fight for the title at WrestleMania, but Nia really should have been given a chance to win the title here, but it seems that Nia will be the next victim of the first ever Women's Royal Rumble winner instead.
