What's the story?
For many months, the WWE Universe has wondered why The New Day went from cereal to pancakes. Xavier Woods clarified the same in a recent interview with Newsday.
He also shot down a rumor that had come forth that the pancakes were a racial stereotype. We thank SEScoops for the interview transcript.
In case you didn't know...
The New Day has peddled various eatables as part of their gimmick. From cereal to ice-cream pops, they've done it all. Much to the surprise of the WWE Universe, they went from the ice-cream pops to pancakes, out of nowhere.
Former WWE writer buries Judgment Day HERE
The pancakes are a featured attraction in The New Day's shtick now.
Be it passing around pancakes to unsuspecting members of the WWE Universe or actually feuding over whether pancakes are better than waffles or not, the WWE Universe has seen far more pancakes than they ought to, in recent months.
The heart of the matter
Xavier Woods said that the idea of the pancakes came from a Lumberjack match that they had been booked in, last year:
I said, ‘Well, if I’m a lumberjack, what do they eat? They eat flapjacks.’ It was hilarious. So, we said the next week, ‘Are we going to do pancakes? Yeah, sure. Why not?’ And that’s where the pancakes came from.
He also dismissed the notion of a racial stereotype urging fans to not look into something that isn't really there:
All we want is a blank slate. And if people continue to refuse to give us one, then they’re doing nothing more than continuing to hold up the social constructs that we’re trying to break down.
What's next?
The New Day fell victim to the Bludgeon Brothers at WWE Fastlane recently. It is not known who (who? who?) their WrestleMania opponents are. One may assume that they could be going for the SmackDown Tag Team Titles currently held by The Usos.
Author's take
Now I can rest in peace. I was highly confused as to why the New Day suddenly went to pancakes from popsicles.
Only in pro wrestling does one get to write about grown men and pancakes.
