WWE: Night of Champions Predictions

Alberto Del Rio vs. Rob Van Dam for the World Heavyweight championship

This week on Smackdown!, Vickie told Ricardo that he cannot interfere in the World Heavyweight championship match this Sunday. Will Ricardo ignore the order and make an appearance? I think so. Del Rio has been anything but an interesting champion, and with Rob Van Dam being on a roll in the WWE, many people might consider RVD as the favourite going into the match.

WWE is heavily investing in Del Rio, and as such, will not let him drop the title any time soon. With Mysterio set to return sometime soon in the future, Del Rio and Rey might get involved in a feud, and hence, I pick Del Rio to retain the title.

Winner and still the World Heavyweight champion: Alberto Del Rio

CM Punk vs. Curtis Axel and Paul Heyman in a 2 on 1 handicap elimination match

One of the most anticipated matches on the card is between Punk and Heyman/Axel in a 2 on 1 handicap elimination match. I expect Heyman to bring in another guy, probably Sami Zayn as the new member in his stable. Punk will likely beat Axel, but will be taken down by Sami. I believe it’s too early for Punk to get his retribution on Heyman. Call me old fashioned, but I’d like to see the storyline play out for more than 2 months, and this feud can be just that.

Winner by DQ: CM Punk

Randy Orton vs. Daniel Bryan for the WWE championship

The main event of the night will see Daniel Bryan taking on the WWE champion, Randy Orton. Expect yet another screw job finish, with Bryan getting ever so close to becoming the new WWE champion, only to be screwed yet again by the likes of Triple H and The Shield.

Daniel Bryan needs to be in the hunt for some more time, and that will propel Daniel Bryan’s stake in the WWE. The more you make the fans wait, the more special the moment will be when Bryan finally overcomes the odds and wins the WWE championship. It is too early to give Bryan the title and let the feud fizzle out, and I believe even the management knows that.

Winner and still the WWE champion: Randy Orton
