In a few days’ time, WWE’s next PPV, the Night of Champions will roll out of the Joe Louis Arena in Detroit, Michigan. Only five matches have been announced so far on the card, but that would give all the matches enough time to play out in entirety, which is a good thing.
The landscape of the WWE changed at SummerSlam, when Daniel Bryan successfully pinned the former WWE champion John Cena to win the WWE title. However, Triple H turned on Bryan and the fans and aligned himself with Vince McMahon, and hand-picked his former protégé Randy Orton to become the WWE champion and the face of the WWE.
Ever since then, the new Corporation has made sure that Daniel Bryan and those who raised questions against the powers that be suffer in the WWE. For the next three weeks, Daniel Bryan was beaten down by The Shield and Orton, and Triple H made sure that the Big Show would be involved in the beat down as well against his wishes. With Triple H throwing his weight around, firing superstars and putting the others in handicap matches, it’s only a matter of time before the superstars retaliate. But first, we have to see what happens at the Night of Champions. So what can we expect from this PPV? Let’s find out.
Rob Van Dam takes on the Mexican “jefe”
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
This Sunday, RVD can add one more title to his already impressive resume by beating Alberto Del Rio for the World Heavyweight championship. Their feud has been centred around Ricardo, instead of Alberto Del Rio or Rob Van Dam. During this week’s episode of Smackdown!, Vickie told Ricardo that he won’t be in RVD’s corner this Sunday. Will that have any impact on the outcome of the bout? Or will Ricardo cost Del Rio the title? What’s next for Rob Van Dam in the WWE? We’ll get all our answers this Sunday at the Night of Champions.
AJ Lee goes against the Total Divas
AJ Lee’s recent promo caused a stir among the divas, especially the cast of the Total Divas show. With Natalya, Brie and Naomi having the opportunity to shut AJ up for good, will they work together to make sure AJ loses her Divas title? Rumours are running rampant that AJ is scheduled to lose the belt, and then get involved in the next season of Total Divas. Can Natalya go back to her roots and win the Divas title, and thus cement her legacy in the WWE? Or will Brie Bella find an opportunity to sneak in a victory? Night of Champions has surely shaped up to be an interesting PPV.
The Shield faces the winners of the Tag Team turmoil
The pre – show match has already been announced, and will feature five teams in a tag team turmoil to crown the new number one contenders for the WWE Tag Team championships. With The Shield not having to defend the titles for quite a while, can one of the five teams dethrone the tag team champions? Will The Shield be complacent? Or will they take their opponents down? Where does this leave the United States champion Dean Ambrose? And who will make it to the main card? There are a lot of questions which will be answered this Sunday!
CM Punk finally gets his hands on Paul Heyman
Two months of anger and frustration culminate to this one match on Sunday. CM Punk looks to get his hands on his former mentor and best friend, Paul Heyman. With Heyman being one of the smartest people in the business, rest assured he will try to find a way to keep Punk at bay. Will the Second City Saint finally get his hands on Heyman? Or will Axel spoil Punk’s plans? Also, with the rumours floating around about the possibility of a new “Paul Heyman Guy”, will we see yet another superstar join the elite stable of Heyman? This feud has been the feud of the summer, and I for one can’t wait to see how it unfolds this Sunday.
Daniel Bryan’s journey to redemption
And last but not least, the bout for the WWE championship will see Daniel Bryan taking on Randy Orton. After weeks of facing humiliation and sneak attacks by Orton and The Shield, Bryan finally has the chance to settle the scores and make things right. Will Bryan be able to win the WWE championship once again from Orton? Or will Orton and the Corporation have other plans for the bearded warrior? Will we see Triple H getting involved once again? There are a lot of possibilities come Sunday, and we can only wait and see how the PPV shapes up! One thing is for sure – the Night of Champions has all the tools to be a great PPV, and is a must – watch event!
