What's the story?
In a recent interview with Tokyo Sports, Kenny Omega said that he wanted to stay with NJPW because the promotion allowed wrestlers to express themselves. He also added that he wanted to showcase NJPW's greatness to the world. The Winnipeg native refused to entertain any questions about WWE.
In case you didn't know...
There has been a lot of speculation about Kenny Omega potentially joining WWE. However, the Cleaner has been taking shots, both subtle and blatant, at the world's largest wrestling promotion ever since his match with Chris Jericho was confirmed.
Omega even went as far as to say that everyone on the WWE roster was beneath him as a performer.
The heart of the matter
During an interview with Tokyo Sports, Kenny Omega said: " I'm staying (in New Japan). 100%. This is where wrestlers can be themselves and fight for themselves. I want to show how great a place it is."
Even though Omega refused to entertain any questions in WWE, the Tokyo Sports article said that the Connecticut-based promotion would have an interest in the cleaner, citing the acquisition of Shinsuke Nakamura as proof of their interest in talent from NJPW.
What's next?
Kenny Omega will defend the IWGP United States Championship against Chris Jericho at Wrestle Kingdom 12 on January 04, 2018. This will be Y2J's first match outside WWE since 1999 when he jumped ship during the Monday Night Wars.
Author's take
Even though Kenny Omega's work in NJPW is critically acclaimed, WWE is the largest professional wrestling promotion in the world by a country mile. A move to WWE would certainly be far more lucrative for Omega, and it is unlikely that he never signs a contract with Vince McMahon.
