What’s the story?
In an interview with The Wrestling Estate (courtesy John Corrigan), WWE and ECW legend Tommy Dreamer opened up on a myriad of topics.
Dreamer spoke about potentially appearing as a surprise entrant in the Royal Rumble this weekend, while also asserting that Chris Jericho vs. Kenny Omega was indeed better than Kazuchika Okada’s trilogy with Kenny Omega.
In case you didn’t know…
Tommy Dreamer, who rose to prominence in ECW and is widely regarded as a Hardcore Wrestling legend, now operates the House of Hardcore professional wrestling promotion.
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
Dreamer and several other industry experts have lauded the aforementioned Chris Jericho vs. Kenny Omega matchup which took place at NJPW’s Wrestle Kingdom 12 earlier this month, as one of the best matches ever.
The heart of the matter
Upon being probed as to whether there’s a chance of him entering the WWE Royal Rumble, Tommy Dreamer explained that he’d love to do anything for any pro-wrestling company. Dreamer recalled how Sonjay Dutt’s injury—something which prevented Dutt from taking an airplane trip—forced Impact Wrestling executives Scott D’Amore and Don Callis to call Dreamer up.
Dreamer emphasized that without talking about the money, he simply asked for a plane ticket and helped D’Amore and Callis out since they’re his friends. Dreamer continued that should the WWE feel him appearing at the Royal Rumble is worthy, he’d definitely be there, and if not, he’ll still be alright. Dreamer also gave his thoughts on Jericho vs. Omega—
“I think Chris Jericho is pure genius. It’s one of the best matches Kenny Omega has ever had. I thought it was better than Omega-Okada, and I thought that was one of the best matches I’ve ever seen. I put that match against Ricky Steamboat-Randy Savage, Ricky Steamboat-Ric Flair. For Jericho and Omega to top it, because it had emotion, I thought that was great.”
What’s next?
Tommy Dreamer has been promoting House of Hardcore 37 which will take place at the 2300 Arena in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on January 26th.
The event kicks off the weekend which is expected to be filled with WWE festivities in Philly as the Royal Rumble PPV takes place at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on January 28th.
Meanwhile, Kenny Omega is the reigning IWGP United States Heavyweight Champion and performs for NJPW; whereas Chris Jericho, who appeared at RAW 25 earlier this week, is expected to continue his feud with Tetsuya Naito in NJPW.
Author’s take
Honestly speaking, I’m inclined to agree with Tommy Dreamer on this one.
Chris Jericho vs. Kenny Omega not only had great in-ring work but also featured top-notch mind-games and an excellent build-up to their match. Jericho vs. Omega or Okada vs. Omega—which one do you feel featured the better match? Sound off in the comments!
