The NXT Live Event in Lowell, Massachusetts had a breathtaking surprise for us all. It is no surprise Samoa Joe winning his first NXT Championship made such an impact, because championships do not change hands in Live Events and Finn Balor’s possible main roster debut made it much more interesting.
With that being said, the Live Event in Poughkeepsie was full of expectations. Amongst other things, the main event saw Samoa Joe defend his championship in a Triple Threat Match against Austin Aries and Finn Balor. Expectations were high as people were expecting Finn Balor to win and continue his reign on television as the NXT Champion.

Chris Girard defeated Mojo Rawley
- The match was reported to be a hot opener. It was reported that Girard was really over with the crowd, but Mojo acted as if he the one who was over with the crowd.
Bayley and Carmella defeated Dana Brooke and Peyton Royce
- Bayley and Carmella were reportedly very over with the crowd. The match was also reported to be good with Bayley scoring the pinfall for her team over Dana.
Manny Andrade defeated Tommaso Ciampa
- The match was reported to be brutal and both men deservedly got big pop after the match.
Shinsuke Nakamura defeated Elias Samson
- The match was reported to be great and there was also a huge heat for Samson. Nakamura received a huge pop as usual. The highlight of the match was Nakamura’s antics. Nakamura’s trademark antics have not been showcased much in his stint at WWE, but if this is the beginning then we can expect great antics from the King of Strong Style going forward.
NXT Tag Team Champions Chad Gable and Jason Jordan defeated Dash and Dawson in a 2 of 3 Falls Match, 2-1
- The champions were reported to be largely over with the crowd and the challengers received some major heat. The in-ring work was reportedly above par and both the teams looked dangerous. It was also reported that the crowd went nuts when the Chad and Jason won the match with a double ankle lock.
NXT Women's Champion Asuka defeated Alexa Bliss
- The finish was reported to come from Asuka Lock. A great match by two great competitors.
NXT Champion Samoa Joe retained over Austin Aries and Finn Balor in the main event
- According to reports, Joe was nearing victory as he tried to put Aries out with the Coquina Clutch. But Balor hit both Aries and Joe with a Coup de Grace. After Balor delivered a 1916 to Aries, Joe stole the pin to retain his title. The most important and surprising part came later when Balor delivered a promo stating he will be staying in NXT, putting rumours about his main roster call up to rest.
