NXT Women’s Champion Asuka vs. Nicole Matthews (Non-Title Match)
After defeating the legendary Mickie James at NXT Takeover: Toronto, Asuka took on the newcomer Nicole Matthews to kick off proceedings. No prizes for guessing who won this contest.
It was pure domination from the word go. Asuka went for a takedown on Matthews, and no sold all of Matthews’ offence. In fact, after a hip attack and a flurry of kicks, Matthews would collapse of her own accord. Matthews would try to make a comeback, and in doing so, went up to the top rope. However, Asuka would transform the same into a Fujiwara Armbar.
Asuka snapped in the Asuka Lock, and Matthews tapped almost immediately.
Asuka def. Nicole Matthews
As Asuka celebrated her win and walked to the back, the announcers would mention that this is her 243rd day as NXT Women’s Champion, and there wasn’t a woman in the back who was ready for Asuka. Asuka echoed the same sentiment, in struggling, broken English, later that night.
After this match, we saw footage of SAnitY dominating Rich Swann, Kona Reeves and No Way Jose from last week. It was announced that No Way Jose would face the leader of SAnitY Eric Young (in his native Canada) which we covered in the previous slide.
Thereafter we saw an announcement saying that NXT Champion Samoa Joe would face Shinsuke Nakamura at Osaka in Japan this month. In a backstage interview with Dasha Fuentes, Joe mentioned that it was no surprise that Nakamura was getting this opportunity, as Regal wanted Nakamura to become champion again.
He was interrupted by Tye Dillinger, in his native country of Canada who challenged Samoa Joe to a fight, the same night. Joe replied that they weren’t at the same level and asked for one good reason why they should fight. Dillinger showed his fingers, said he had ten, and slapped Joe across his face.
A visibly fuming and furious Joe said that Dillinger wasn’t walking out of the arena that night.
