The Backlot Brawl was next on TakeOver: In Your House. We saw Adam Cole drive up in a custom Undisputed Era-styled truck, while Velveteen Dream pulled up in a Lamborghini. However, Dream had another message to send, as he appeared dressed as The Walking Dead's Negan. Lucille included.
NXT Championship Match: Velveteen Dream vs Adam Cole (c)
Cole demanded Dream drop the bat before he entered the ring. Dream obliged and rolled up Cole as he ran in with a cheap shot with the belt. A backslide earned Dream another near fall. The O'Connor almost put the NXT Champion away as well.
Dream chased Cole around ringside and was met with a Mafia Kick as he went back inside. Cole then stated "I'm leaving" before getting in a different vehicle. Dream followed him, battering the car with Lucille. With nowhere to go, Cole had to get back out.
An Uber driver did pull up, and Cole attempted to escape again. The former NXT North American Champion yanked him out, forcing the driver to leave. Cole couldn't escape the Vainglorious One. Dream sent the NXT Champion into a trash bin, but Cole sent him into a meter, cracking his face.
As Cole continued to look for an exit, Dream grabbed another trash can and a lid. Cole managed to find a door that was open and caught Dream coming in with a fire extinguisher. With that, Cole was on the attack.
Cole bounced Dream around the vehicles surrounding the ring while berating him. The second Dream got the upper hand, Cole again looked to leave. Dream dove off the top with a flying elbow drop and was caught in mid-air with a superkick.
Dream managed to recover and slammed the NXT Champion on top of the hood of a car. After grabbing a ladder, Dream set up for the Purple Rainmaker. Just as he made it to the top, Roderick Strong and Bobby Fish pulled up, distracting him and allowing Cole to cut him off.
The longest reigning NXT Champion still managed to fall from heaven, however, as he was dropped from the ladder right through the windshield below. Bobby Fish and Roderick Strong jumped Dream before tossing dozens of chairs into the ring.
Strong went for another chair under the ring, but it was dragged away by none other than Dexter Lumis, who was waiting for this exact moment. Lumis took care of both Strong and Fish, tossing them in the trunk of their car and driving them off, evening the playing field in this NXT Championship match.
With that, Cole was all by himself. He slowly made it off the car and crawled into the ring where Dream was waiting. Cole set up for the Panama Sunrise on the chairs but was countered into the Dream Valley Driver. Cole kicked out but was placed in a chair for the Purple Rainmaker.
Somehow, someway, Cole kicked out. Dream picked up Cole, who caught Dream with a low blow. This time, the Panama Sunrise connected, spiking Dream on the pile of chairs. 1-2-3.
Results: Adam Cole defeated Velveteen Dream via pinfall.
Grade: A
Velveteen Dream is no longer allowed to challenge for the NXT Championship as long as Adam Cole is NXT Champion. It's a sad day for the Vainglorious One, but his Dream is indeed over.
Todd Pettengill was trying to sell some merch to the WWE Universe, though he wasn't told ahead of time that 1-800 numbers were pretty much obsolete at this point.
We also cut to DX attempting to get onto a computer, though they uh...their advanced age made it difficult.
