WWEs failure to pack Monday Night Raw with some intriguing buildup for Battleground left the fans wandering for questions this week. The only match up that got some credible booking was the big fatal four way Championship match as it got intertwined with the Money in the bank briefcase. Some tension was also there between Jack Swagger and Rusev but apart from that the show looked flat. The in ring action wasnt memorable as well ending the night as an average show.Though it wasnt one of those episodes to remember, it had some moments which represented WWEs current product. So here is a look at those moments which gave the fans some drops of cooling rain amidst the scorching chaos that WWE put together.
#5 AJ Lee and Paige sharing compliments
AJ Lee taking the title away from Paige was supposed to launch a heated feud between the two divas but WWE apparently took a different path which has left the fans in confusion.
Though the friction between the two can be felt, the WWE is doing a great job in masking the whole thing with a lot of sugar coating. Paige still remains a face despite all the over the top antics and WWE is building their angle around it.
The two are going to break down at one point or the other and end up having a heated rivalry where the basic face – heel dynamics of professional wrestling would be met.
Some more television time and more matches involving the two will set up the situation even better if the company is planning to let it explode at SummerSlam.
#4 USA-Russia Dtente
A couple of weeks back, the WWE fans would’ve never dreamt about having such an exciting angle in the midcard.
Rusev and Swagger have managed to keep their momentum levels high throughout the feud while the reaction of the WWE Universe shows that they are also invested in the patriotic storyline. WWE banked in on the ability of Lana and Zeb Colter to evoke emotions among the crowd.
This ensured a great battle of word between the two. Though Rusev and Swagger were pushed to the background initially, when they got involved, the intensity reached a whole new level.
The match for Battleground carries a lot of expectations after this and WWE will be having a tough time living up to those.
#3 Wyatt Ambushes
The Wyatt family wasn’t having the best time after Money in the Bank pay-per-view. The introduction of Chris Jericho into the mix was to bypass the same and it has started to show a positive outcome.
Wyatt had to dominate in some kind heading into Battleground and the two ambushes that they had on Raw delivered the purpose.
The first one made Erick Rowan and Luke Harper strong heading into their two out of three falls match with the Usos while the latter involving Jericho was more than effective.
Jericho was out there to get some answer from Bray and instead he got beat down in a cruel manner. It was a trademark Jericho promo which set up the angle well and Bray was back in the limelight again after minimal Money in the Bank feud which made him look a bit weak.
#2 The Cena Reigns Showdown
The fans were left drooling with the prospect of Cena and Reigns going one on one at some point in the near future.
WWE made full utilization of the situation by setting up a confrontation between the two to start the show off. It wasn’t one of those things which ended in the two superstars brawling with eachother but had plenty of tension to keep the fan on the edge of their seats.
The only problem that the segment had was Cena’s diplomatic approach. He was playing this fair and was having a typical Cena promo. Though Reigns was on the aggressive side, Cena chose to stay safe and on the fence to save his face.
It’s something that WWE should address the next time these two face off as it could easily set the stage for Cena to lean towards heelish ways.
#1 Chaotic ending for Main event
WWE was planning out a six man tag team match for the main event of Raw but it morphed into a handicap match after Dean Ambrose got knocked out.
With so much talent in the ring, the match was bound to be a great one and it ended up being the best match of the night. WWE used their usual technique to book a chaotic match but it was the climax which deserves a lot of praise.
Roman Reigns speared John Cena after the match concluded in disqualification while the relation between Randy Orton and Kane showed cracks. The Viper standing toe to toe against Kane will be a great subplot to look forward to.
Reigns and Cena is having a lot of friction right now and along with that, the above mentioned angle makes the match more intriguing. In addition to this, Seth Rollins is looking for the right opportunity to cash in ensuring an ordered chaos.
