It was just another day at the office for the WWE creative team as they put on a Raw which was a mixture of some great matches and some not so great ones.
The buildup to the Elimination Chamber continued in all force as most of the matches seem to be set at this point. The heel trio showdown rocked the crowd this time also as both the teams stood toe to toe in terms of matches as well as promos.
Batista also got his hands dirty again with Alberto Del Rio while some of the elimination chamber contestants got a well needed momentum boost. All these buildups were capped off with an amazing encounter between Randy Orton and Daniel Bryan which was by far one of the best matches of the young year.
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
There were a lot of talking points on this week’s Raw but let’s take a look at how the wrestlers faired with the superstar ratings.
Zack Ryder- 3/10
It’s not every time that you see Zack Ryder on Raw but when he does appear he makes a losing effort that doesn’t make any point.
And this week, it was ever worse as Ryder went against Titus O’Neil, who recently turned heel. Ryder has the ability to get the crowd going but that seemed of no use since the creative booked him in a squash match.
Kofi Kingston- 4/10
Being part of a makeshift team to entertain the fans was the only task given to Kingston this week. The highly energetic Kofi did that job in some sort of style and there is nothing that needs to be said about that.
He is one of those superstars that will put on entertaining matches every night in and night out without getting any big push, this week was no different as Kofi ended up on the losing side.
Rey Mysterio – 4/10
A seasoned veteran and a former World Heavyweight champion Rey Mysterio has been put into random matches ever since he made his return in to the squared circle.
The WWE doesn’t seem to be interested in giving him any sort of storyline and he remains among the list of superstars which has been utilized in a minimum manner by the creative.
Titus O’Neil- 4.5/10
Titus seems to be well set on the new character given to him as he was seen ruthless in the match against Zack Ryder.
There was also a tease of a potential feud with The Miz which could well be an interesting clash. But for now the win looks like a good start for the new push. Darren Young could also be thrown into the mix to add more dimension.
The Rhodes Brothers- 4.5/10
For the first time in many months, the Rhodes brothers were seen involved in a match that was well below their regular standards.
It’s a doubt to whether they will get another shot at the titles any time soon as they took another defeat this week. The steel cage match didn’t carry any sort of heat and the tag team division looks like its heading for a downward spiral after the exchange of tag titles.
The New Age Outlaws- 4.5/10
As weeks pass, the fact that The New Age Outlaws are slowing down becomes clearer to the WWE Universe.
The Attitude Era degenerates have not done anything so far to make look their title win credible. A Steel Cage match at Raw against the Rhodes Brothers carried a lot of expectations but the match failed to live up to the hype as it went nowhere.
A lackluster win doesn’t do anything good for the Outlaws and the company needs to rethink their strategy at the moment.
R-Truth and Xavier Woods- 4.5/10
Another average week for the duo but it was good to see them together rather than one spending time on the commentary table.
Being the opponents of Wyatt Family also added a much needed push for them as they were in a much relevant scene rather than being pulled down in the midcard.
Dolph Ziggler – 5/10
Though he was on the losing side of the match, Ziggler made a solid performance which backed up his last week’s heroics.
The loss is a drop in the momentum, but like Truth and Woods, Ziggler also benefited from being in a relevant scene. The crowd was well behind the Show Off and in the near future we might see him being pushed back into the main event scene once the part timers leave the roster.
Batista – 5/10
Having a title shot in his pocket, Batista is currently locking horns with Alberto Del Rio who is bound to take Batista our before WrestleMania.
The brawl that happened this week was part of the simple buildup of the feud which is sure to culminate in a match at Elimination Chamber. Del Rio was made to look like a credible opponent for the Animal and that adds extra spice to the rivalry.
Curtis Axel- 5/10
The former Intercontinental Champion got some great limelight this week as he was pitted up against Sheamus.
Axel looked solid at various points of the match and WWE seemed to be exaggerating his positive which worked well for the third generation superstar. He was graceful in the loss and it would benefit him in the long run. The creative should really look into booking Axel like this if they are to do anything with him.
Big E Langston- 5/10
All the momentum that Langston gained some weeks ago is not seen anywhere now. He is been booked in a heavily inconsistent manner for the past few weeks now and Langston seems to have lost his credibility as an Intercontinental Champion.
He was very lively in his match against The Shield and the powerhouse had a lot of moments that stood out. Unfortunately, he was pinned in the match that had Kofi Kingston in it. Another loss stings Langston again as WWE needs to really look into his curious case.
Jack Swagger- 5/10
At this moment, the Real Americans seems to be on a collision course since the friction between Zeb Colter and Jack Swagger is building up each week.
The number of blows that Swagger has been taking ain’t doing any good for him as his partner is climbing the ladder on the other side. Swagger suffered another defeat this week against Christian and the stage is set for a potential turn in the near future.
Alberto Del Rio – 5/10
As predicted, Del Rio is all set to clash with the Animal as the duo once again rubbed feathers against eachother.
This week there were no in ring action from Del Rio but the Mexican stood toe to toe with the Animal which was a surprise in various dimensions. The brawl will be a buildup to the eventual match which promises to be a stellar one at this rate.
Christian- 5.5/10
There was no lack of surprise in the return of Christian recently as he was directly put into a high profile match by the WWE creative.
Having secured his spot in the Chamber, the veteran was given a chance to prove himself. apart from a bit of rustiness in the ring, Christian looked good in the match and gained a lot of momentum with the win against Jack Swagger.
Sheamus- 7/10
A win in the well worked match against Curtis Axel was a great way for Sheamus to build some great momentum ahead of Elimination Chamber. Two week’s into his return, Sheamus has wasted no time re-establishing himself as a top dog.
The in ring dynamics between the two was a treat to the eyes and the match seemed fresh in many sense. Sheamus looks bound to be involved in more matches like this before his eventual Chamber match.
The Shield – 8/10
Another excellent week for the Shield, the trio had a lot of action this week both inside and outside the ring.
First they pulled off a great win over the makeshift team of Rey Mysterio, Kofi Kingston and Big E Langston. There were teases of impending split between the team members as Dean Ambrose and Roman Reigns didn’t seem to be on the same page.
They then gave another great promo against the Wyatt Family and boosted their upcoming match at the chamber and all these make this a good week for the Hounds of Justice.
The Wyatt Family – 8/10
With all the eyes set on their impending clash with the hounds of justice, The Wyatt Family produced another great night with their captivating promos and dominating presence.
Locking horns with the Shield is making them look creepier as they will go to all the limits to intimidate the other trio. Their match on Raw also stood out for their unorthodox style as always.
They also look great on the receiving side when The Shield made a promo. Wyatts keeps their consistency alive and stands out from roster for all their efforts that were well on target.
Randy Orton and Daniel Bryan- 9/10
The reason why these two men don’t get different things is because of the paramount chemistry that the two showed in this week’s Raw.
If it wasn’t for both the men, the WWE universe would have had a match of the year contender this week. Both Orton and Bryan gave their heart out in the match which went from twist to turn in every corner.
Bryan took home the win, but Orton deserves a lot of credit for being a solid threat to the flying goat. The WWE gave some great momentum to Bryan with the win and as Elimination Chamber approaches these men could end up being the last two contestants in the Satan’s playground.
