Nobody would bat an eyelid if Baron Corbin became the United States Champion. But if he did become the Universal Champion, people would say that he's not ready for the role just about yet. This was WWE's way of telling us that they believed that he was ready to ascend to the next step.
I still don't think that WWE would like it too much if Baron Corbin goes on to win the Universal Championship, but then again, this could be the beginning of great things for the man. Corbin is a heat magnet and now, he has the chance to become the top heel of the red brand or even the blue one if he moves there, after the draft.
Superstars like Stone Cold Steve Austin and Kurt Angle went on to do great things after the King of the Ring tournament and Baron Corbin could certainly follow in their footsteps.
