WWE Monday Night Raw: 7th July, 2014 - Top 5 moments of the week

WWE went back to basics this week on Raw as the product was centralized on the in ring action after Stephanie McMahon and Triple H decided to skip the attendance. There were some exciting matches throughout the match card and most of them even carried a well plotted back story. The Usos and Wyatt Family had another tag team match that showed they are the teams around which WWE should rebuild their division. On the other hand, Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose were at it again, pushing forward their feud which is the companys top angle right now. Apart from the matches there were some great moments from the night which could be stored in the archives, so here is a look at them.

#5 Wyatt Family Usos match

Wyatt Family and Usos represented the fading heartbeat in the tag team division with another awesome match. It had all the dynamics of a pay-per-view match as all four men had great chemistry.

The contrasting styles of Wyatt family and Usos where the former rely on power and creepiness and latter stuck on energy is getting over with the fans well. However, the feud between the two teams is more than shallow since Wyatts have already suffered a loss at Money in the Bank.

If the company is planning to push the angle right into a match at Battleground, the only thing they could do is to add some stipulation into that title match to avoid it being repetitive.

#4 Team of AJ Lee and Paige

The divas tag team match might not have been given the importance to AJ Lee and Paige, but the teaming up of these two girls was unexpected.

Almost everyone in the WWE Universe was waiting to see Paige and AJ Lee get into a cat fight and instead WWE decided to pair them which had a much bigger scope. The way in which Paige introduces AJ was clearly over the top and hinted that Paige might be playing the heel role in this angle.

WWE could easily push the angle further to make Paige’s impending heel turn more effective and let AJ have some momentum before the two finally face, preferably at SummerSlam. It’s an angle that WWE should not waste as it’s their last hope of reviving the Divas division.

#3 Reigns Promo and brawl

This week, the WWE decided to give Roman Reigns some mic time and boy did he use it well. Reigns was even able to produce a Cena sucks chant from the crowd which shows why the WWE Universe is slowly titling in his favor.

Also the brawl that he had with Kane after the promo gave the fans more to cheer. The Montreal crowd even got to see the lights of Joey Mercury and Finlay with the latter getting nailed by a spear from Reigns.

It was a chaotic starting to this week’s show and since the fans enjoyed it to the core, the company should really think about doing this more often.

#2 Bret Harts return

The first name that would come across a wrestling fan’s mind when they hear Montreal would be Bret Hart. The Montreal Screwjob is arguably the incident which turned wrestling business upside down and WWE trying to acknowledge the situation by bring back Hart hit the nostalgic notes.

It wasn’t one of those memorable segments that he had with Damien Sandow, but the purpose of Hart was to give the fans a feeling of having him in the city.

That did happen and Hart is someone which the company could use every now and then rather than saving him for the special occasion. WWE is still running without a General Manager for Raw and Hart is someone who could stand up against the Authority and fill that post.

#1 Cena- Reigns showdown

Though a majority of the WWE fans receive John Cena with jeers, they are well aware of the fact that he is the biggest draw that WWE has at the moment.

Along with that, Roman Reigns is seen as someone that could fill in the void that Cena will leave once he decides to put an end to his wrestling career. WWE is slowly pushing Reigns into that status and him being involved in the title scene serves as the first level.

In short, Cena is the present and Reigns is the future of the company. Teasing a potential feud was a nice touch from the WWE and without doubt, this could well be a WrestleMania main event in near future.
