Backstage interviews and brawls have always been an interesting part of RAW for years. The Rock gave us some of his best moments in such interviews, which justifies WWE‘s attempts of recreating such moments. Though they do not come out as expected most of the time, these backstage moments have their own role to play in the show.
Let us now go through all the backstage events that took place on RAW last night and try and find out if they made any sort of impact in the show.
1. Total Divas Fail
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
The Bella sisters, who have been making news courtesy their latest show Total Divas, managed to appear backstage. RAW had the Total Divas influence again this week as they tried to bring Eva Marie some relevance in the Bella dominant Divas division.
Brie and Nikki looked completely in control as they managed to make fun of Eva and Natalya as she made her appearance. They mocked Natalya by telling her that being on the show was a slap in the face. But then Nattie slapped Brie in the face to show her what a slap in the face really meant. It was by far the most satisfying part of the segment.
2. CM Punk interview
CM Punk had a short one minute interview backstage before his match with Curtis Axel. Punk spoke about how he respects Bobby Heenan and Mr. Perfect but didn’t share the same for Axel and Heyman.
Punk said Axel was Heyman’s puppet and would beat him just the way Brock Lesnar would get beat at SummerSlam. Confident words from Punk, but one must doubt how of that confidence would have remained after Lesnar assaulted him later in the show.
3. Kane puts the Wyatts in the Ring of Fire
The Wyatts looked dominant yet again this week as they mauled the Tons of Funk. Bray Wyatt, who had a few things to say to Kane, happened to find Kane’s pyro go off near the entrance.
Kane appeared on the Titantron and spoke from backstage about how he enjoys everything that the Wyatts do. Kane added that they share similar tastes but he is different as he does it for the pleasure. Kane also told the Wyatts that they will see what he is made of at SummerSlam in a Ring of Fire.
Does that mean we’re having an Inferno match? WWE’s suddenly become interesting.
4. Heyman’s ‘Stupid’ Challenge
Backstage after Punk was given a beating by Lesnar, Paul Heyman and Axel were being interviewed by Renee Young. Lesnar was on the mic almost after a year only to sound extremely funny. But he managed to earn the quote of the night award when he asked Heyman to ‘say something stupid’. That surely did tickle our funny bones.
A visibly angry Heyman then warned Punk and challenged him to a fight on RAW next week, which surely was stupid unless Heyman’s actually got something special for Punk in his mind.
5. Stephanie needs more glycerin
Stephanie McMahon was shown crying backstage as Vince McMahon shouted at her for the failed ‘corporate makeover’ earlier in the show. She said Vince was completely upset and humiliated during the segment and he blamed her for what transpired.
An angry Triple H said that Mr. McMahon had lost it and the days of the creative genius are numbered. He went on to talk about Mr. McMahon trying to screw Daniel Bryan at SummerSlam and said that he will do anything to stop him from doing it.
A strong segment that managed to meet its purpose. But a special note to Stephanie, who needs to improve greatly on her acting skills.
