WWE RAW review: How the members of The Shield fared alone

After almost a year and a half, all the speculations were laid to rest. The Shield finally split. It is now a duo comprised of Dean Ambrose and Roman Reigns. The original three man tag team is now no more. They will now only be ever-present in the history books of WWE. And now things are finally shaping up for their solo run in the company. And it looks like the company is sure on who gets the lion’s share of a push but still keeping in mind about the potential of the rest.

As soon as Seth Rollins revealed himself as being Triple H’s Plan B, two feuds became clearer than ever- Dean Ambrose versus Seth Rollins and Triple H versus Roman Reigns. Though the latter is still in the process of taking shape, the build up to the former match has been put in motion and it is going quite well. Actually it is the best feud to look out for right now. The Storyline benefits from the history they shared as a dominant tag team. They were not just dominating , but they were quite possibly the only consistent entertainment factor on WWE programming since November 2012.

The storyline also benefits from the fact that Ambrose and Rollins have quite a reputation and following that they gathered before joining WWE, courtesy their history within the independent circuit. The Loose Canon persona of Dean Ambrose and the many moves of Seth Rollins have brought them to this very place which is the most popular wrestling organization in the world right now. And it is also quite possibly the one match that fans are more excited about than the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, but then again I can’t speak for a massive unit that is the WWE Universe.

The Shield members were featured heavily on Raw this week. Seth Rollins had a good match with Ziggler and then interfered Ambrose’s match. Ambrose had a match with Bad News Barrett after interfering in Rollins’ match. Roman Reigns had a strong showing in the battle Royal match to become the new entrant to MITB main event but not before being part of a contrasting segment with Vickie Guerrero backstage.

So, the field has been set. Roman Reigns has been catapulted to the main event which can be considered his first steps to a fast approaching solo career because the aura of the Shield as a three man tag team can’t be replicated. They have to slowly come into their own and carve a niche for themselves. And Ambrose seems to be doing that quite well that way. Seth Rollins had all the attention when he became the modus operandi to finish the Shield. Roman Reigns has always been given loads of attention.

Dean Ambrose is the first member now to get a new gear. He wore a vest and jeans for his match against Barrett and he seems to be carrying off that look really well. His devious, loose canon persona is taking shape and it definitely has many fans’ curiosities and attention.

Rollins seems to be doing quite well in his heel role. It is quite a role reversal to have Rollins play the heel and Ambrose play the face but in the present era there seems to be more polarizing stars than having matters as total black or white. The gray area has come to the fore.

Roman Reigns is shown to be evidently the favorite as far as the main event scene goes. He is being groomed as the heir apparent. He is nowhere close to having a persona of his own but his looks are the driving force to his shot at the titles. Here’s the thing- he will be cheated out of it by the Authority, for sure. But the fact is that his feud with Triple H will look to cement his place.

As they embark on a predominantly singles career, the road ahead will be getting tougher. And as we all expect and hope, the tough should and will get going.
