WWE shocked the wrestling world last week by releasing 11 superstars from its roster, including a referee. The released superstars were Evan Bourne, Brodus Clay, Drew McIntyre, Jinder Mahal, Curt Hawkins, Aksana, Yoshi Tatsu, JTG, Camacho, former General Manager of Smackdown Teddy Long and referee Marc Harris.
A few of the released names come as no surprise, but the release of a couple of these superstars who were active recently led to astonishment from the fans.
The main reason behind the string of releases is said to be the losses incurred by the WWE at the stock market and the failure of WWE Network to generate revenue in its first year of existence.
In the case of Yoshi Tatsu’s release, it is said that the WWE felt he had regressed in the ring and was not as promising as before. Whereas in case of Evan Bourne, it was his constant problem with injuries that made the WWE release him from its roster.
‘The Funkasaurus’ Brodus Clay, however fell out of favor with the WWE creative team. In terms of the Teddy Long’s release, his contract was due to expire soon and Long himself was keen on leaving the company.
It is expected that more wrestlers and employees are due to be released in the days to come.
