Ric Flair is one of WWE’s greatest for a reason as his insight for the business and the current product is top notch.
On his the 27th episode of his podcast WOOOOO! Nation with Ric Flair, he spoke about an array of topics that included his current favourites on the roster, what he likes most about each one of them, the lack of egos and much more. Below are the excerpts:
On Bray Wyatt and Roman Reigns
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
Flair pointed out Bray’s amateur wrestling background and his family lineage – that has contributed to his love for pro wrestling. He said that Bray and his brother Bo Dallas are wonderful kids. He talks about how their legendary father Mike Rotunda was an athletic specimen, that translated into his kids turning out to be pretty good too.
By speaking very highly of Bray and Roman Reigns, he said that both the talented stars are legitimately tough and would have been a huge draw even if they were part of the wrestling world back in the 70’s and 80’s.
Shifting his focus on Reigns, he said, “"Roman Reigns, for as quiet and humble as that guy is, remember who his dad is [Sika Anoa'i]. Let’s get serious! Roman Reigns was All-ACC at Georgia Tech. I mean, the kid can play sports!"
On Ziggler not living up to his main event potential
Flair was of the opinion that it is not Ziggler’s fault that he has found himself lost in the mid-card shuffle and blames it on WWE’s fault booking. He stressed that he likes Ziggler immensely due to his talent and amateur wrestling background, but added that it doesn’t account to a lot in the WWE.
"Will he ever have an opportunity to wrestle in the main event of WrestleMania? I don't know. I hope so because he [has] got the talent, but it just seems like one week they're on, and one week they're off,” the Nature Boy said.
On fixing Cesaro’s problems on the mic and being his manager
The Nature Boy echoes the sentiments of the majority when he said that Cesaro brings to the table, what no one else offers; but he too is a victim of some lacklustre booking.
He said, "Who brings more to the table as a performer, if you look at raw ability, than Cesaro? Nobody! I mean, that kid is phenomenal! But, he's one week on, one week off, and I think that's part of the problem.”
On Cesaro’s mic skills and the issues with it, Flair offered to step in and be his manager and mouthpiece. He added and said, “"I know how they can resolve that mic issue, dial 9-1-1-Naitch!"
On why the current wrestlers can't have huge egos
The Nature Boy admitted that back in the day, WWE stars had mammoth egos, which wouldn’t fit into the current set up.
By saying that only two stars went on to have legendary careers in spite of having large egos, he said, “ It's really hard, now, to have that kind of ego because I think the last guy, probably, to have that kind of an ego that was able to last, two guys to get away with it would be the Rock and Shawn [Michaels]. Do you know what I mean? But they were both so damn good at what they did, they could have egos and pull it off."
