Another week and yet another WWE PPV is around the corner. If the brand split has achieved anything, one of them is definitely having multiple PPV’s every month. Is that a good thing? Probably not but only time will tell.
Roadblock has a strong card on paper but rumours of poor ticket sales have dogged WWE’s last PPV of 2016. A last-minute flurry of new additions to the card may help address the situation.
Roadblock will be headlined by either Kevin Owens vs Roman Reigns for the WWE Universal Championship or by the 30-minute Iron-(Wo)man match between Sasha Banks and Charlotte Flair for the WWE Raw Women’s Championship. Also on the card a tag-team title match between record-setting champions The New Day and the team of Sheamus and Cesaro.

As of last week, we have also known that Sami Zayn will finally get his shot at the monster Braun Strowman in a match that bizarrely has a 10-minute time limit. Seth Rollins will also finally get his hands on Chris Jericho while we’ll see a triple threat match for the WWChE Cruiserweight Championship with Rich Swann defending his newly won championship against former champions Brian Kendrick and TJ Perkins.
With Roadblock, less than half a week away, let’s take a look at the last-minute rumours. So, without further ado, let’s dive in.
5: Charlotte beats Sasha Banks on PPV again
Charlotte and Sasha Banks are well and truly on the path to establishing themselves as this generation's Flair-Steamboat. Their rivalry has only intensified as the year has gone on with the Raw Women’s Championship going back and forth between the two women a number of times.
So far this year, Charlotte has beaten Banks in every PPV singles encounter between the two while Sasha Banks has bested Charlotte in the meeting on Raw. Going into Sunday, Sasha remains the favourite to walk out as champion but there is some chance that Charlotte will continue her streak over Banks in PPV’s and once again retain the Raw Women’s Championship.
After the events on Raw two weeks ago, there is also a chance that Ric Flair will show up and turn on Sasha to side with his daughter to help her regain the championship.
4: Triple H returns
Triple H has been absent from main roster programming since he helped Kevin Owens win the WWE Universal Championship last August. There have been repeated rumours of Triple H returning to television since but it hasn’t materialised yet.
However, with Seth Rollins calling Triple H out on Raw the last couple of weeks, the rumours of an impending Triple H return are picking up steam once again. With the road to Wrestlemania beginning soon, the time seems right for ‘The Game’ to finally return and shut his former protégé up.
If last-minute rumours are anything to go by, Triple H’s return could take place as soon as at Roadblock this Sunday to kick start a feud with ‘The man’ Seth Rollins.
3: The New Day finally lose their championships
WWE made sure that New Day broke Demolition’s record as the longest reigning Tag-Team Champions, thanks in part to Demolition’s ongoing involvement in a lawsuit filed against the WWE.
The New Day have infuriatingly retained the title over the last few months, by hook and by crook, winning in whatever way they could – whether it be thanks to interference or by DQ. However, it finally looks like their record-setting title run will come to an end this Sunday at Roadblock: End of the Line.
Cesaro and Sheamus’ unlikely partnership has captured the imagination of the WWE Universe and they have already come close to winning the Tag-Team titles on a couple of occasions only to be thwarted by The New Day.
However, it looks like their time may finally come at Roadblock and they’re currently the favourites to beat The New Day this Sunday.
2: Chris Jericho turns on Kevin Owens
Chris Jericho and Kevin Owens’ friendship has come to a grinding halt in the last couple of weeks as tension between the two have continued to mount. According to backstage rumours, Roadblock could definitely be the end of the line as far as their friendship is concerned.
Jericho is reportedly set to interfere during Owens’ WWE Universal Championship match against Roman Reigns to kickstart a feud between Owens and Jericho heading into Wrestlemania season before Jericho once again leaves the WWE to go tour with his band Fozzy.
1: Double champion
Speaking of Owens and Jericho, the fallout from Jericho screwing Owens will be Vince McMahon’s wet dream coming true – Roman Reigns becoming a double champion and holding both the Universal and United States Championships.
Pushing Roman this hard ahead of Wrestlemania season will almost definitely lead to another huge backlash from fans but as Vince showed us at Wrestlemania last year, he doesn’t care. Roman is the anointed one for this generation, no matter how the fans or anyone else feels.
