One must be feeling sad for Roman Reigns now even though he walked out as the Royal Rumble winner from Philadelphia. The win was supposed to be a major step up for the Samoan Superstar but instead it looks set to act as a career destroyer for him.For the second year in a row, WWE will be selling a WrestleMania main event that the fans would not be buying. It is hard to blame WWE as well for their decision since letting Daniel Bryan win would have put them in a fragile situation due to his health. The 2015 Rumble will be remembered for how the Extreme fans in Philadelphia booed Roman Reigns, but there were some high points in the show as well and here is a rundown on those moments.
#5 Get the tables
There was going to be a number of surprise entrants at the Rumble, but many wouldn’t have imagined seeing Bubba Ray Dudley back in the WWE ring. He teased a deal with New Japan Pro Wrestling after the TNA run and everyone expected that to materialize.
However, the appearance at Royal Rumble has made things more interesting. Bubba was one of the most successful heels in 2014 and if he is here to stay in the WWE, then it is great news for the WWE Universe.
Seeing the ECW Original return to the land of extreme was a great sight to be frank and even though he did not survive long in the match, Bubba did make a lasting impression with his first ever Royal Rumble appearance.
#4 Bray Wyatts dominance
Bray Wyatt’s career was experiencing a near death run after he concluded his feud with Chris Jericho. No one was taking Bray seriously at that time and a string of bad booking decisions in the Dean Ambrose further destroyed Bray’s stock.
Despite all these, things did pick up for the Eater of the Worlds when he defeated Ambrose in the Ambulance match. The rumors suggested that WWE was preparing Bray for a showdown with The Undertaker and those doubts were further fueled with Bray’s performance at the rumble.
He was running rampage throughout the match and was looking like a potential winner. He did not manage to go all the way, but it was great to see Bray deliver a great performance at a legendary stage.
#3 Lets go Rusev
For the fans out there who are struggling with the basics, Rusev is a heel. He is a bad guy who is supposed to be jeered by the fans at every turn he takes, but that was not the case in this year’s Royal Rumble.
ECW death occurred almost a decade and a half ago, but Philadelphia fans still has the aura of Extreme. They will love you to the core if they are getting what they want and they will boo you out of the Arena if the show is not up to the mark.
Rumble belonged to the second category. WWE made Reigns the winner in a place where pretty boys was crucified. It might not sound good on paper but the fans cheering a heel to win the Rumble match in the end was a great thing indeed.
#2 Brahma Bull returns
Rock made the dirt sheets go into overdrive when he posted a picture of himself at Philadelphia just the night before the Royal Rumble. He was expected to make some kind of appearance at the pay-per-view and when he did, he blew the roof off.
The idea was to bring in Rock and overshadow the elimination of Daniel Bryan. It almost worked initially when the fans popped insanely when they saw the Brahma Bull but after the realization struck, it was back to basics.
Rock along with Roman Reigns did get booed as the night neared its end but seeing a legendary name make an appearance is always a good thing for the Wrestling fans.
#1 The Entire Triple Threat match
This list should have actually been made up of moments from the Triple Threat match because it was the best part about the pay-per-view. Triple Threats are not designed to be classics, but Brock Lesnar, Seth Rollins and John Cena rewrote that assumption.
The match was filled with spots from the start and the intensity was simply too high. John Cena doing a double Attitude Adjustment, Seth Rollins jump to the announce table, Lesnar kicking out at one, Rollins doing a corkscrew, the suplexes, curb stomps, everything fitted in perfectly.
It was probably one of the best Triple Threat matches in the history of WWE and it will surely be there in the list when WWE decides the match of the year.
