Bryan and Styles remained grounded for most of the WWE Championship bout

The New Daniel Bryan has made it his goal to tear down everything, including the "House that AJ Styles built". After stealing the WWE Championship from him before Survivor Series, the former favorite of the WWE Universe turned his back on the wrestling world. Removing himself from the Yes Movement, Bryan has become focused on using his spotlight to save the Earth, even if that means injuring anyone he sees along the way.

AJ Styles, after a pep talk from Vince McMahon... that led to a beatdown from Styles, tapped into his animal instincts. Now, The Real AJ Styles looks to reclaim his WWE Championship, ruining Bryan's plans in the process.

Bryan crept forward, measuring Styles before the two locked up. Quickly, though, it broke down into a brawl, with Styles forcing Bryan to retreat. Back in the ring, Bryan looked to ground Styles, but the Phenomenal One was able to outwrestle the champion. A shoulder block sent Bryan to the mat, where they continued to try to one-up each other.

Styles sent Bryan to the outside again, but Bryan teased his challenger before getting back in, attempting to get into his head. Bryan took Styles to the corner for a knee and a chop. Styles answered back with two chops, and the two continued to trade shots back and forth until a back body drop from Styles launched Bryan across the ring.

Back on their feet, they again went tit-for-tat, landing solid blows on each other. Bryan managed to hang Styles up on the turnbuckle, though, and he landed shoulder first on the ring post. From here, Bryan continued to work over that weak spot, sending Styles into another ring post left shoulder first.

Bryan damaged Styles' arm with a kick to the shoulder, followed by an arm breaker and a stomp to the arm. In the middle of the ring, Bryan was able to put Styles in a hammerlock, but the former champion made it to the rope, breaking the hold. Styles fought away from Bryan's game plan with a few strikes, only for Bryan to lock him back into another submission with a double underhook suplex turned into an armbar.

Styles, again, fought out, but couldn't escape the punishment Bryan brought down upon him. Nothing flashy here, as Bryan looked to humiliate Styles. Back on his feet, Styles continued to trade strikes with Bryan and managed to stun the WWE Champion with a dropkick. As he got up, it was noticeable that he was bleeding from his nose.

Styles connected with a pump handle backbreaker and a suplex neckbreaker then pounded Bryan's face into the mat. Attempting the Styles Clash, Bryan countered into a pin. After a few reversals, Styles caught Bryan's leg, sending him crashing to the mat with two dragon screws. However, as Bryan goaded Styles into the corner, he sent him face first into the turnbuckle with a drop toe hold.

Bryan brought the running dropkick out of his arsenal, connecting with one. Before he could hit another one, Styles came out of the corner, only for Bryan to sling him down onto his neck with a dragon suplex. The New Bryan brought Styles up top, attempting a super hurricanrana. Styles caught him and was setting up for a Styles Clash from the second rope, but Bryan fought him off, sending him toppling to the ground outside.

Styles made it back to the apron and avoided a shoulder tackle from Bryan, then slid into his face with a knee strike. On the outside, Styles connected with the springboard moonsault DDT from the barricade, driving the back of Bryan's skull into the protective mat. Back inside, Styles attempted the springboard 450 Splash. Bryan put his knees up, then locked in the LeBell Lock.

Styles escaped and managed to lock in the Calf Crusher. Bryan escaped as well, and struck Styles with an enziguri, though he couldn't capitalize as his knee leg was too damaged. Bryan managed to set Styles up for the Yes Kicks (?) and though Styles avoided the final kick, Bryan came back around and connected regardless. Bryan countered another Calf Crusher attempt with another kick to the face.

Bryan went up top and was stopped from diving by Styles. Styles met Bryan at the top and rained several headbutts upon him. Bryan escaped through his legs, crotching him on the turnbuckle. Up top, Bryan brought Styles down with a belly to back suplex, but Styles escaped, rolling out and locking in the Calf Crusher.

Again, the Planet's Champion managed to escape. As both men stood, they tried to pin each other with a backslide, trading elbows all the while. Styles flipped Bryan over for a brainbuster, and the champ kicked out. Styles set up for the Phenomenal Forearm only for Bryan to connect with a kick to stun him. Styles managed to send him away to try again, but his injured arm hindered him from doing it in a timely manner, allowing Bryan to kick him mid-leap.

At this point, a returning Erick Rowan made his way to the ring and stared on near the announcers' desks. Styles chopped Bryan back down with kicks to the leg. Styles almost caught Bryan with a dragon screw, but Bryan escaped with an enziguri that hit the ref instead.

Styles finally hit the Styles Clash, but Rowan broke up the pin and choke-slammed Styles. Bryan pinned Styles when the ref woke up for the win.

Results: Daniel Bryan defeated AJ Styles via pinfall.

Rowan stood in the ring with Bryan and was instructed by the champion to hoist him up. Bryan then hit the Knee Plus on Styles, laying him out again. Rowan raised Bryan's hand, and both men left the ring.
