Aalyah Mysterio's absence from WWE SmackDown has rightfully given rise to several questions. What happened to her on-screen romance with Murphy?

Well, it seems like the angle has been dropped.
Dave Meltzer reported in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter that WWE reportedly had no idea how to follow-up on the storyline. Aalyah and Murphy's alliance might be nixed for good.
Regarding the Murphy/Aalyah disappearance, that was noted this week when during the Rollins promo, Murphy was one of the wrestlers at ringside, never pointed out or focused, so he was at TV. It was just an angle dropped. There's no backstory or behind-the-scenes story on it. I guess they had no idea where to take it and thus dropped it.
It was reported a while ago that WWE had originally wanted Rey Mysterio, Dominik, and Murphy to team up for a six-man tag team match against King Corbin, Wesley Blake, and Steve Cutler.
The program was also canceled after Steve Cutler's WWE release. WWE spent a lot of time building up towards the Aalyah-Murphy pairing on TV. Oddly, they have reportedly just decided to drop the storyline altogether.
However, plans change quite often in the WWE, and we shouldn't rule out seeing Aalyah and Murphy back on the Road to WrestleMania 37.
