#4. Backstage reaction to Samoa Joe's commentary work
The most recent episode of RAW saw Samoa Joe replace Dio Maddin in the commentary booth.
The fans believed that the Samoan Submission machine put in a solid performance on his first night as a commentator and the officials backstage echoed the same sentiment.
As revealed by Dave Meltzer in the Newsletter, the powers that be recognised how good Joe was on RAW. It was also stated that Joe will return to the ring once his broken thumb heals up.
"A bright spot on the show was the work of Samoa Joe in the Dio Maddin spot as an announcer. He was fresh, quick, and got everything over with a no-nonsense delivery. Joe was so good in the role that you have to at least consider making it permanent."Joe is a regular wrestler and will be back in action when his broken thumb heals. We were told that everyone recognised how good Joe is."
#5. Reaction to Jerry Lawler's return to commentary
Jerry Lawler's return to commentary earlier this year was met with mixed reactions but The King hasn't been all that bad. At the very least, he's followed what the WWE has told him to do.
Dave Meltzer stated that people backstage think Lawler has done better than expected since his return. The feeling is that Vic Joseph has benefited from the experience of Lawler.
Lawler was given the directive to do away with age-old cultural references and to target the younger audience and thus far, the 69-year-old legend has done a great job.
"The general feeling internally is that Lawler has been better than expected and with his experience has helped Vic Joseph to get into the right rhythm. The only real direction with Lawler was a push to stay away from dated cultural reference since the idea for Raw right now is to target younger viewers and push new stars."
