What's the story?
Finn Balor takes on Brock Lesnar for the Universal Championship at The Royal Rumble next weekend, but it appears that one of the main reasons for the recent switch is because The Beast himself requested a match against The Demon King.
In case you didn't know...
Finn Balor was originally supposed to face Brock Lesnar at last year's Rumble event but there was an infamous report that suggested that Balor wasn't "over" enough to take on someone of Lesnar's caliber in a Royal Rumble match.
Balor spent the best part of 2018 trying to point out the fact that he was over enough, which seems to have worked since he has finally been given a chance at redemption by going one on one with Lesnar at the Rumble next weekend.
The heart of the matter
According to a recent report by The Wrestling Observer, it was Brock Lesnar who actually requested the match against Finn Balor for the Universal Championship at The Rumble. Lesnar actually wanted to face Balor last year as well but the match was obviously turned down.
There have been a lot of reports over the past few days that have suggested that WWE knew that Strowman was the wrong choice for a Universal Championship match and that the plan was always for Balor to step into his place instead.
What's next?
Finn Balor takes on Lesnar for The Universal Championship next weekend in Chase Field at The Royal Rumble in a match that many of the WWE Universe are hoping The Demon will show up for.
