Cesaro has been quite the house of fire following his return, the night after WrestleMania 32. Since his return, he has put up some amazing matches with the likes of Sami Zayn, the Miz, and Kevin Owens.
But this was before the brand split and his seemingly unending feud with Sheamus began.
The “Swiss Superman” is currently embroiled in a Best of Seven Series with Sheamus where he is trailing by 3-0. Despite fans being behind Cesaro all this while, he has been made to job to Sheamus to the extent that he now needs to win four matches in a row, or risk losing the series.
There may be many reasons for WWE booking Cesaro in the manner that they are doing, in this feud. Many might speculate that this is a punishment for his apparent rant in an interview after being drafted to RAW in the 6th round.
He said that he would much rather be drafted to SmackDown where the focus was on wrestling rather than to RAW which seemed to focus more on the drama between Stephanie McMahon and Mick Foley.
Recently reports however suggest an entirely different picture. There may be two reason for Cesaro’s dismal start to the Cesaro/Sheamus series of matches. One the one hand, it may be safe to assume that WWE are backing Cesaro to shine in a babyface come-from-behind win scenario or they are just having Sheamus win the series.
This decision may seem to be puzzling as Cesaro has been a crowd favorite for some time now, while Sheamus has been stuck in the mid card.
The other reason may not paint a rosy picture. It is reported that Cesaro is nearing the end of his WWE contract and has only a few days to go before his contract expires. The WWE rumors are that Cesaro has not signed a new deal and may not continue to do business with the company given his recent dissatisfaction with his role.
If this rumor does turn out to be true, Cesaro might be on his way out of the WWE.
Cesaro is one of those names that hasn’t received a main event push in a long time. Even Stone Cold Steve Austin had raised the issue with Vince on his podcast. He asked Vince why a talented worker such as Cesaro was not being pushed.
Vince then brought out the brass ring speech saying that Cesaro had not been able to connect with the WWE Universe. He might have also been hinting at Cesaro’s mic skills that were not his best attribute.
Since then Cesaro has been able to go over with the crowd simply with excellent performances in the ring and his brilliant move-set. Cesaro now has a growing legion of fans – the “Cesaro Section”.
But still a major push seems to be evading him. Is this the beginning of the end for the Swiss Superman?
