New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
In case you didn’t know...
Chris Jericho has been one of the main attractions of the WWE for the past year and has played a major part in the Brand Split’s success. His latest run has been immensely entertaining and has rejuvenated his career once again.
He won the United States Championship back from his former best friend Kevin Owens at this week’s Payback pay-per-view and debuted on last night’s SmackDown LIVE as the champion.
However, Jericho has an upcoming tour with his band, Fozzy, and hence had to take some time off WWE. As a result, he dropped the championship back to Owens and was written off television.
The heart of the matter
Rumours have surfaced that the Ayatollah of Rock n’ Rolla is set to make his return to the company later this year. Jericho’s tour with Fozzy starts soon and they’re also working on a brand new album, so it is safe to assume that Jericho won’t be back for another 4-5 months.
However, he might get done with all the Fozzy related work by the end of the year. This could give him the chance to return to the WWE once again.
What’s next?
Jericho is scheduled to start touring with Fozzy from this week onwards. He is completely out of any WWE storylines for the next few months. However, a return at the end of the year can be a possibility, as Jericho himself has stated multiple times that his latest run has made him fall in love with the business all over again.
Author’s take
Jericho is my personal favourite wrestler of all time. His ability to rejuvenate his career time and again is something that dazzles me every time. Not many wrestlers can take simple insults like “Stupid Idiot” and add their opponents’ names on a mere piece of paper and make it as impactful and entertaining as Y2J can.
His presence in the WWE always brings along sheer joy and entertainment to the fans and his frequent time-offs equally sadden them to an extent. Hence, as fans, we want nothing more than to see the former 6-time World champion back in action as soon as possible.
