What's the story?
With Dean Ambrose dropping the Intercontinental Title last night to Bobby Lashley in a Triple Threat match with Seth Rollins, focus now turns to just who the Moral Compass will face at The Show of Shows.
Joe Peisich brought up that he's heard an interesting name may be opposing the now former Intercontinental Champ at WrestleMania 35 - EC3. Ringsidenews.com carried the report from the No Holds Barred podcast on Barnburner.
In case you didn't know...
A lot of things have switched around lately which also causes big changes to what many believed were matches going down in April.
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
Lars Sullivan was slated to clash with John Cena, but his recent anxiety issues may have caused that plan to be scrapped completely. Braun Strowman was slated to face Brock Lesnar for the Universal Championship at the Royal Rumble, but he was replaced by Finn Balor last night on Raw.
With the plan of Ambrose dropping the IC title to Lashley, could that have freed him up for a potential singles match with someone new to the main roster?
The heart of the matter
As we have witnessed a lot over the last few months, like the diagnosis of Roman Reigns' leukemia, a lot of the prior Wrestle<ania plans have changed.
Joe Peisich mentioned what he has heard through the grapevine regarding a potential opponent for Dean Ambrose at WrestleMania 35.
“I’m also hearing that EC3 will go up against Dean Ambrose at WrestleMania. So that’s what I hear about this.”
EC3 joined many of the other Superstars outside of Vince McMahon's office once it was official that Braun Strowman would not be challenging for the Universal Championship at the Royal Rumble.
His cameo was brief but the cameras made a point to show EC3 looking at Charly Caruso while she also waited outside the office of the chairman.
Ringsidenews also figures that if this match does take place, it would mean two things - that EC3 will end up on Raw and that WWE apparently has a lot of faith in NXT's Top 1%.
What's next?
It's not surprising to hear that EC3 is already being considered for a match against one of the top Superstars in WWE. He's a ready-made character for WWE and he already has experience on WWE's main roster. He's not afraid of the bright lights and big spots as he was the Impact World Champion on a few occasions while away from WWE.
While it was slightly disappointing for Ambrose to drop the title so soon, it was primarily to get the belt from Rollins to Lashley.
EC3 didn't need an extended run in NXT like some other Superstars who were unfamiliar with WWE's style may have, so it will be refreshing to see him make his WrestleMania debut in a few months.
