While Cain Velasquez's initial debut on the first episode on SmackDown on FOX had the WWE Universe buzzing as the former UFC Champion came out to confront his long-time rival Brock Lesnar, the actual match that took place at Crown Jewel has certainly dampened the audience's interest in Velasquez.
Brock Lesnar managed to crush Velasquez in a matter of minutes at the event in Saudi Arabia, retaining his WWE Championship. Velasquez has not been seen in action since his embarrassing loss to The Beast, but there had been reports stating that he is all set to team with Humberto Carrillo in a match against the OC at the upcoming live event in Mexico.
However, as per Cagesideseats, it looks like WWE have yet again canceled the plans for Velasquez's in-ring return:
Cain Velasquez hasn’t been advertised for the Mexico house shows on some commercials, leading to speculation he may not be working the show after all.

Initial reports had suggested that there were plans for Velasquez to team with Rey Mysterio at the live event, but they were later changed and Mysterio was replaced by Carrillo.
What could the future hold for Cain Velasquez?
It is clear that the company does not have much confidence in Cain's in-ring ability as of now and are taking things slow before making him a regular on WWE television.
By having him compete at live events, WWE would allow Velasquez to become a better in-ring competitor without the pressure of performing in front of the world's audience like he had to at Crown Jewel.
It can be believed that WWE will want a rubber match in the future between Velasquez and Lesnar, but with the way things are going, the WWE Universe will have to wait a long time for that one.
