What’s the story?
Days after JBL was linked to bullying backstage in the WWE once again, a new report has surfaced claiming that it is being encouraged by WWE officials.
The Background
JBL has received a reputation of being a bully backstage in the WWE. It was more prevalent during his wrestling days, which immediately turned fans against him. His demeanour, while abrasive, is that of a demonstrative figure who throws his weight around after winning gold for the first time.

Mauro Ranallo, SmackDown Live’s lead announcer, took a leave of absence, reportedly due to JBL’s bullying backstage. According to Meltzer, it’s caused Ranallo to fall into a bout of depression.
The heart of the matter
The Wrestling Observer Newsletter stated in its latest issue that Vince McMahon is allowing the bullying to carry on because of a “carny mentality.” Here’s an excerpt from the issue:
The company is in a very weird position right now because Ranallo not being there makes this a public issue. But it’s a story that will probably not get them any negative publicity even though it’s real. So corporately, they don’t have to react and haven’t. Hopefully, this is the wake-up call to change and realize the old days are over. In most modern wrestling companies, they are over. There really may only be one left.
What’s next?
Unfortunately, Ranallo had to miss WrestleMania. He has missed several episodes of Smackdown Live in a row and his return date is unknown as of yet. It is unlikely that JBL will be reprimanded for his behaviour.
Author’s take
JBL’s bullying is inexcusable, but if McMahon doesn’t care that it’s happening, then nothing will come of it. He’s going to allow it to continue without the perpetrators having to face any repercussions. Ranallo is just the latest victim of it.
