What's the story?
Ricochet debuted on Monday Night Raw this week in a tag match against Bobby Lashley and Lio Rush where he and Balor were victorious but this reportedly wasn't the original plan for The One and Only.
In case you didn't know...
Ricochet is a former North American Champion and over the past few months, he has made quite the impact on NXT. That being said, he was called up by WWE COO Triple H on Monday Night Raw as one of four superstars who had made the leap.
Aleister Black, Johnny Gargano, Tommaso Ciampa, and Ricochet were all victorious as part of their debuts on Raw but there were a number of changes to the programme throughout, since Seth Rollins was originally supposed to play a huge part in the show, but couldn't be medically cleared beforehand.
The heart of the matter
Ricochet's original opponent was reported to have been Finn Balor, according to a report by The Wrestling Observer. Balor had only recently won the Intercontinental Championship and Triple H didn't want The One and Only to lose on his Raw debut, so he pushed to have this match changed. [H/T 411Mania]
It was later decided that neither man was in a position where they should job to the other, so instead, WWE put Bobby Lashley and Lio Rush back together despite them only splitting the night before.
What's next?
Ricochet and Balor reportedly had a fantastic match planned for Raw, but because this wasn't used, there is always the possibility that the two men will step into a feud in the future and it could instead take place on a much grander scale.
