In what came as a major shocker to many, Dolph Ziggler dropped the Intercontinental title to The Miz on this week’s historic episode of SmackDown Live – SmackDown 900. Miz became a 6-time IC Champion with the assistance of his wife Maryse and the Spirit Squad to book his spot in the Survivor Series match against Sami Zayn with the title on the line.
According to reports, Miz won the title on SmackDown to facilitate a Sami Zayn win at the cross-brand PPV. The consensus is that Sami Zayn would be better off winning his first major title on the main roster from a heel rather than a face.
The rumored plan is to have Sami Zayn win the IC title from Miz and take it back to RAW. When it comes to the speculation of Miz jumping ship to the red brand, backstage sources claim that it is nothing but a part of the ongoing storyline between Daniel Bryan and the A-lister. Miz too has been incorporating Bryan’s moves in his matches as he used the yes kicks and the flying knee on SmackDown 900.
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
As of this writing, WWE has no intentions of shifting Miz to RAW.
The WWE Universe was quite excited about the prospect of seeing two of the hardest workers in the WWE – Sami Zayn and Dolph Ziggler – tear the house down this Sunday, but WWE had other plans. Nevertheless, the Miz-Zayn dynamic too has the potential to spawn a five-star classic.
With Miz currently in the midst of the best phase of his career and Zayn on the cusp of breaking out as a legitimate champion, the stage is set for a show-stealing match. Moreover, Miz’s recent matches with Ziggler – be it on SmackDown or PPVs – have been nothing short of incredible.
Check out this week’s match between the perennial rivals on SmackDown 900:
The premature end of Ziggler’s IC title reign further validates WWE’s mismanagement of the Show-off. Ziggler’s future now hangs in the balance, and it would be interesting to see how WWE uses him going forward. Will WWE add him to the Survivor Series match and make it a three-way battle for the IC strap? We would have to wait till Sunday to find out.
