What's the story?
With the recent introduction of the physical Women's Tag Team Titles this week on the 'A Moment of Bliss' segment on Raw, speculation instantly turned to who would be the first-ever team to be crowned.
Joe Peisich offered up his thoughts on a recent episode of Barnburner's No Holds Barred podcast what he has been told will be the match at Wrestlemania - a bout between Bayley and Sasha Banks against Trish Stratus and Lita. Bodyslam.net carried the report.
In case you didn't know...
Mr. McMahon announced on the Christmas Eve episode of Raw that the Women's Tag Team Titles would be coming in the new year.
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
The titles had been thought to be revealed at the Evolution PPV but that show came and went without anything said about it.
Since the McMahons announced a lot of things would be different in the 'New Era', many thought and hoped that the announcement would include another title for the women of WWE to chase.
With the announcement and revelation of the belts on Raw this week, the hope for the women of WWE finally became a reality.
The heart of the matter
Peisich mentioned on the No Holds Barred podcast on Barnburner that WWE already has big plans for the Women's Tag Team Titles at Wrestlemania.
“You know Bayley and Sasha Banks are most likely winning the tag team titles. I hear at WrestleMania they’ll defend the tag team titles up against Trish Stratus and Lita.”
Bayley and Banks have been one of the teams that have been prominently featured on Raw since the summer.
Since neither has been in the Raw Women's Title picture lately (except for Banks now at the Royal Rumble), it was figured that they would likely be one of the favorites to win the tag titles.
Bliss mentioned that three teams from Raw and three teams from SmackDown would compete in five weeks at the Elimination Chamber PPV.
Another interesting factor mentioned by Peisich is that Bayley and Banks would defend the titles at WrestleMania 35 against the Hall-of-Famers Lita and Trish Stratus.
The veteran duo was brought back for the first women's rumble match as well as a featured tag team match at Evolution.
Having two of the biggest women's stars in WWE history compete for the tag titles in April lines up with WWE always wanting the biggest possible match-ups at its WrestleMania shows.
What's next?
Expect the six teams for Raw and SmackDown to be announced following the Royal Rumble. Since Banks is unlikely to wrest the Raw Women's Title from Ronda Rousey, it is likely that she and Bayley will likely be the favorites at the Elimination Chamber.
There are also several teams already in place on both shows that will likely make up the competitors in the Elimination Chamber match.
Teams like Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville, the IIconics and Nia Jax and Tamina seem like they would be locks for the match.
The next month should help clear up a lot regarding the Road to WrestleMania. Several things can change between now and April, but for now, Bayley and Banks vs. Stratus and Lita makes perfect sense for WrestleMania.
