Former WWE announcer and Vice President of Digital Media Content Joey Styles has been released by the company, according to Pro Wrestling Sheet. However, it is not yet clear on what date Styles was released by the WWE.
Styles had recently conducted a Facebook Q&A, which has been described as his shoot interview, wherein he was seen bashing WWE Chairman Vince McMahon. The former announcer was very open during this interview where he revealed his dislike for the 3-man commentary booth along with his hatred for the name of the WWE Universal Championship. The 45-year-old also revealed the reason behind Roman Reigns’ extended run as a babyface.
He said: “Bottom line is, if our chairman thinks he sees a future star as a babyface, that’s how things are gonna play out. But the answer is Vince thinks it can work. He’s been right much, much, much, much, much more than wrong over the course of the last 40 years. I’m sorry, but I’m not gonna second-guess the chairman.”
“That’s part of it: Moms are the ones who bring kids to shows. Kids like Roman Reigns. Moms like Roman Reigns. That’s the reason. Just because some people boo him doesn’t mean everyone doesn’t like him.”
It is not yet known whether Styles was released due to his comments, but the videos has been pulled by WWE from their social media pages.
The 45-year-old was known for his stint with the ECW, where he worked during the entire run of the promotion, i.e. from 1993 to 2001. Styles was the sole host of ECW Hardcore TV, while also being the show’s sole announcer during the early days of the company.
A statement is awaited by the WWE. What do you think about the news? Will Joey Styles make a return to the WWE?
