Monday Night Raw came to an epic conclusion, which saw Kevin Owens beat Seth Rollins, Roman Reigns and Big Cass to lift the WWE Universal Championship, in what was anything but a clean finish to the match. By doing so, Owens became only the second WWE Universal Champion after Finn Balor – who had to relinquish his title due to injury.
Following the injury to Balor at SummerSlam, where he was also crowned the first ever WWE Universal Champion, Raw needed a Champion and on Monday night with some help from Triple H, they finally had one.
Kevin Owens had already eliminated Big Cass via pinfall in the Fatal 4-Way Elimination match for the Universal Championship and was dominating proceedings when Triple H appeared out of nowhere and nailed a pedigree on The Big Dog. The King of Kings then allowed his protege Seth Rollins to pin Reigns.
It appeared that HHH was then going for Kevin Owens to help Rollins lift the Universal title, but in an unexpected turn of events Hunter pedigreed Rollins thereby providing Owens with the opportunity to pin him and win the WWE Universal Champion.
Former WWE wrestler and 2-time ECW World Heavyweight Champion Taz in his latest podcast showered praise on Kevin Owens for winning the WWE Universal Championship and insisted that the former NXT star deserved it. However, Taz also revealed that it is very much a possibility that Owens did not know that he was going to win the title until Triple H whispered in his ears while tossing him back in the ring.
He further added that it might also be possible that Rollins was the only superstar of the four, who had prior knowledge about who was going to lift the title at the end of the day. Taz also commended Owens for his incredible impromptu reaction to being gifted the golden opportunity to become the top guy in the Red brand.
What do you think about it? Do you think Owens was in on the plan that he will win the title, or Triple H just informed him during the match? Leave us your thoughts in the comments section.
