All is not well for John Cena in the WWE after losing to AJ Styles at Summerslam. Following his loss to the phenomenal Styles, the 15-time Champion hasn’t appeared on Smackdown and only worked dark segments after RAW.
It was previously reported that Cena’s TV series “American Grit” has been picked up for a second season by Fox which will force him to take some more time away from the WWE to film the next season of the show. After it was revealed, the rumour mill has been buzzing about John Cena’s plans and how his future with the company would be affected.
According to Wrestling Inc.com Cena will not be taking a hiatus from WWE until mid-October, which is when the first season of the filming began last year. Cena is expected to be out of action for most, if not all, of the remainder of the year to film the show.

John Cena has been a face of the company for a decade, however, in recent times the lucrative roles that Cena has played in the past within WWE has marginalized with his feuds being with mid-card talents rather than the usual world title feuds. Cena last challenged for the World Championship title at Summerslam against Seth Rollins and ever since then has been taken out of the main event pictures in PPV’s.
Cena admitted on the recent Talking Smack episode that he is openly waiting for someone to step up and take his spot. Just a few days after the announcement, both Cena and AJ Styles stole the show at Summerslam and had one of the most important matches in WWE history. After the match, it seems that Styles could be the face of the company after racking up two victories against Cena.
However, it was rumoured that Vince Mcmahon may not have accepted Styles being the face of the company so soon, and he wants the rivalry between Cena and Styles to continue.
It’s been a combination of injuries, television shows, and movies for John Cena throughout the summer. But it seems once the 39-year-old returns to the squared circle following the filming of American Grit, he will renew his feud with AJ Styles and continue the battle for the top spot in the company.
